Weis is going to get paid either way. He went there trying to resurrect his college coaching career, and perhaps as someone said, pad up a job for his son if it worked out well. It's not like LSU or whoever was going to hire Charlie Weis as head coach. He had to find a place where there'd be a low pressure job for him to try to re-establish his name if he didn't just want to be a coordinator forever.

Of course, it could also be a question of who wanted to coach at Kansas. Obviously it's not a name football program, and not all that long ago they fired two different coaches, one of whom had the AD sneaking around behind his back undermining him. Meanwhile in the present day the cupboard is bare. It's not an attractive job in football at the current time. Look at the attendance, and then look at how people show up for basketball shootarounds.

"That guy who used to be Notre Dame's coach" might have been their only chance to get a recognizable name into the job. It could have been good for recruiting if Weis hadn't self-immolated
