Personally I'd love to see a series based not upon the federation, but again probably not bankable so it won't start. Although it would be cool to have a federation versus say the Klingons series where it's told from both perspectives. Say the main series is the federation point of view and a web series that's from the Klingon point of view(with appropriate crossovers). Again though the cost of production for an alien themed component would probably be too much from makeup costs alone.

Quantum leap was dark at times, especially the final episode. It's one of my favorite TV episodes because it didn't end on a high note. In the happy cheery escapist world of modern tv it was awesome!

I think Frazod and I had a discussion about a new Star Trek series recently. The production costs were up to about $4 million per at the end of TNG and while a network could probably make that doable and realistic, if it's a ratings hit, the cost of production will rise due to the salaries of the actors. It's really a Catch-22: If it does well, production costs will likely rise to a point where it's no longer economically feasible. If it does just okay, it most likely won't be economically feasible to keep it on the air. IMO, the best way to go about a new Star Trek series is to limit it to 13 episodes per year and have it shared across multiple channels. So maybe an HBO/CW network or CBS/Showtime or Fox/FX/FXX. CBS and Paramount are the rights holders so it would likely be a CBS/Showtime type of deal with maybe a non-premium like TNT/TBS as a partner. |

have an R rated Trek series on HBO or Showtime. With appropriate nudity, language and violence.

There were a lot of similar problems with Firefly in the sense of connecting to wider audiences. Characters speaking Chinese slang being one of them. I always thought it was cool, but I definitely fit into the Browncoat category. |

I wouldn't want a firefly remake, because the best part of the show was the cast. You aren't going to get a second group that good, with that much chemistry, together again. Whatever they do would be a shadow of the original. And probably be on the CW with 20-year olds.
I try not to imagine what 7 years of that show would've been like. |

Book would have died, Wash would have turned Heel. Inara would get herself embroiled in a love affair that would leave Mal tormented. River would lose her powers for an extended period only to regain them with negative consequences. Simon and Kaylee would have eventually wound up together only to see Simon killed off by Wash. Jayne would still be in his bunk.

I hated the final ep. No closure.

I thought it was an absolutely horrible end to such a great series. Pissed me off and left me feeling hollow about it all. Almost like they just couldn't come up with anything to do so they just decided to do nothing.

I was digging around just now. I wanted to watch the episode again and stumbled across a message board discussing the finale. A couple of posters there were saying that it was supposed to be a season ending cliff hanger, but the show wasn't picked up for the next season and it became the finale. One person went so far as to suggest that the caption about Sam never leaping home was added in spite.
