Metallica: Through the Never

Anyone going to go see this in the theaters? I bet it would sound amazing.

Yet on the internet, all I read is that they suck now and haven't been worth a shit since 1986.

Cracks me up.
I think it's the lack of opposable thumbs that keeps most of their fan base from using sophisticated machinery like computers.

Seriously?

Good = Album Sales now?

Like I care how many concerts they sell out. I don't like the new stuff. I guess I should let Hollywood tell my what to like then and stop trying to form my own opinion.

EDIT:
Also, missed from the post you quoted was a comment about vocals. Can you honestly listen to that trailer and not hear a difference from the original recording? That's a significant difference IMO.

Metallica moved away from the trash metal headbanging fanbase into a more Disturbed/Creed/Puddle of Mud/Staind fanbase.

I'd say the latter don't use the internet as much as us 30-40 somethings.

So, it makes sense to me.

No. "Good" is completely subject and a matter of opinion.

Album sales are not.

Which is in direct contradiction to your opinion. If everyone thought they sucked, then they'd be playing clubs like 99.99% of all the other bands in the world.

What I hear and what you hear are irrelevant. The fact remains that they are, by far, the most popular band in the world, despite what all the internet haters would like everyone else to believe.

Every single one of those bands came more than a decade after Metallica and some cases, more than 15 years after Metallica.

Or course they do. Are you stating that teenagers and 20-40 year olds use the internet less than those 40-60?

Seriously?

I think you are missing the point completely. I never once said anything about how popular or well received they are. I said what I liked. That has nothing to do with what you or any other person thinks. Let me say this one more time. My comment was about what I liked.

You seem to be trying to tell me that I am wrong for not liking the new sound, just because everybody else does. So it's not Hollywood I should take my personal tastes from, but popularity?

OK, I guess I'll be enjoying a Bud Light and a Macanudo tonight. Umm, nope.

I meant the shift in fanbase. I realize those bands copied them.

30-40 year olds dominate forums. And we all know if you hate something, you will be more vocal about it.

Yes it does.

Dude, every freaking teenager and college student has Internet access through their smart phone and dorm room. Kids in grades K-6 have computer labs with Internet access.

You're flat out wrong.

And you missed my point completely. The point was that on the Internet, Metallica hasn't done a record worth a damn since 1986. Yet they've sold in excess of 100 million records and routinely sell out the largest venues the world over.

I find it hysterical.

I won't deny that they're hugely popular still all over the world. I just haven't been a fan since Newsted left the band.

Death Magnetic was very very good, so it's not like they can't still make good music.
