Worst Sports Injuries in History

Welp, seeing Kevin Ware go down on Sunday it brought me to think of some of the worst Sports injuries of all time.

Here's my #1 spot for worst injury(WATCH AT YOUR OWN RISH): Sliced his artery.

Man, soccer doesn't tend to have too many serious injuries, but when they DO happen they're ****ing terrible. I seem to have a thing for shin and knee injuries, I hates seeing those kinda injury videos, with twisted knees and snapped legs, just ehhhhgg.

Russell Phillips, I believe. The catch fence sheared off the top of the car and the top of him, too.

Also, Tom Pryce (F1) and the track steward. That was bad. These guys can Google it (look for unedited video for maximum fun!); I don't think I want to describe it.

That's one that I remember as being bad, but I can't really recall what was so bad about it. And I'm gonna keep it that way by not watching the vid.

Nah, the video that haunted me was when the guy got kicked in the head, and it looks like it snapped his neck.

The guy did all kinds of wild things before finally falling to the ground. I thought he died, but evidentally it was just a seizure.

I get the desire not to see these sorts of things and probably won't watch many of them. However, I take issue with the lumping of these accidents with the horrifying video of Nick Berg. That was a staged event which was hardly an accident. It was meant to horrify and terrorize. There was no reason to feed into the terrorists wishes by watching the video. I saw a picture of the end result which was bad enough. I never did watch the video and question the sanity of those who willingly did so.

The sports injuries, while equally a peep show in one aspect, are also curious to watch because they are ACCIDENTS. Many times FREAK accidents and if you are an avid sports viewer you watch many of the events with the knowledge that something terrible could go wrong at any moment. The chances of that happening depending on the sport with some a virtual lock at having a terrible accident while others it's just a freak circumstance. Like Kevin Ware's injury.

I think people choosing to see this was in part to see what the fuss was about. I was watching live and missed the accident itself only hearing the commentary. I was curious to see WTF was going on. I watched the accident. After seeing it I was both surprised at the extent of the injury based on the landing and that it doesn't happen more often.

I have since viewed (through mostly covered eyes) a few other videos like the neck injury and it is truly sickening what happened to Clint Malarchuk and was hard to watch. But it was truly an accident. Knowing that happened as a staged event to Nick Berg makes me even more resolved not to ever watch that video.

As far as soccer injuries, not to many graphic violent ones but they seem to have their fair share of fatal heart attacks. Though not an accident, they certainly are not pleasant to watch.
