Free Agent Tuesday 9-11-12?
Rumor has it that most of the veteran unsigned free agents will sign tomorrow. I guess the owners get a big discount by waiting until the end of the week one before signing them per the new CBA. It's like they don't have to pay them guaranteed money or something.
I think we will sign at least one free agent and maybe more. I am thinking Eachus goes to the practice squad and maybe others too. I am thinking we sign Sean Smith and maybe Mughelli or Atogwe. We need a real FB to run Daboll's offense the right way and if we sign a FS, Daniels can move back to corner. All three of these guys were brought in for a look over the last few months. Do you think we will sign some players tomorrow? |

Yes, if you sign a player after the beginning of the season, his yearly contract is not guarenteed, unlike if he begins the regular season on your roster. That's not a new rule, either.

Not only is it not a new rule, but think about what you're getting. Great players are under contract. Marginal players are cut from a team and signed by another team looking to upgrade well before the season starts. The remaining vets who are available after Week 1 either a) aren't that good to begin with or b) have an injury issue. The guys available grade out as B-es or C+es maybe, and might help an already strong team get better depth or a horrible team get slightly better crap on the field. No one sitting at home is a "push a team over the hump" player.

I think if Jamaarcus Russell is out there we take him, or if Ryan Leaf would be willing to come out of retirement.

Yep. It's an indication that the depth you drafted and the FAs you signed as backups aren't really any good.

Isn't Garrard available? I doubt we bring him in even if he is as we don't want to bring in anyone who is actually better than our current starting QB.
