This is Professional Football. In a time of parity. Anything can happen. After the last two weeks I do not any longer believe in underdogs or upsets. I would like Pitt to win and I know that they can. I do not like Denver, but I do not hate them as much as most here do. I think that the NFL has joined the other Pro Leagues in having homefield go out the window for the most part. In the MLB, NBA, and the NHL homefield usually only comes through in the last game of an odd numbered series.

while I'll admit the pick might be a bit emotional, I also very much respect the homefield advantage Mile offers, also.

I simply think that Pittsburgh has a solid run D and can throw enough schemes at Jake to confuse him a time or two - which could make the difference.

Denver can be passed on and B.Roth looks sharp and they have the rushing attack with a 1-2 punch to keep Denver off the field and still punishing them.

Carolina I think has no fear and why should they - Seattle may get the best of them in a shootout but I once again feel the Carolina is a physical team like Washington is- but they have a better offense to match points with.

SO, I may be wrong, but I stand by the two teams that I've been impressed with their play the most so far in the playoffs. Both have played two solid games and on the road . At this point if you can't get worked up to go play on the road- especially when there's no pressure on you to win b/c you are the wild card then best of luck to Denver and Seattle.

I think Denver's defense is getting overlooked for the 2nd straight week. I think they'll force Roethlisberger into mistakes.

I just keep coming back to the fact that Invesco is one of the hardest stadiums in the NFL for visiting teams...

Gil Brandt was covering this on sirius a little earlier, both defenses gave up 248 points,Denver 2nd against the run Steelers 3rd,basically saying this should be a very close game.

Gave a nod to B Roth though for being the only player in history to lead his team to the championship game his first two years.

You could say the same for Pitt.

The only advantage or area I'd rate the Donks higher is in HFA.

They don't have better WR's, RB's, or offensive line.

Defense is close, with a slight edge to the donks for being at home.

Denver rookie QB John Elway, on Jack Lambert, after Lambert and the Steelers knocked Elway out of his first game as a pro (1983).

Yeah, really they are very similar teams. They are both very run based on offense, have a solid O-line, and have QB's who can make spectacular plays, but can be forced into mistakes by good defenses.

On defense, they both stop the run, and live and die off the blitz. Both secondaries can be beat deep because of that.

Yeah, but I mean everybody is talking about Pitt's defense. Especially since they stopped the Colts. Just like everybody was talking about NE's defense and Plummer, and their much improved D vs. the Broncos running game. Nobody talked about the Bronco's D last week, on here, ESPN, wherever. And nobody is talking about them this week. And they're the reason they are in this game. The Broncos got some calls, but they were all after legitimate turnovers forced by the Broncos to put them in those situations.

Denver
Pass D - 29th - 56.1 completion %
2nd in Run, give up 4.0 yards/carry
scoring 4th 16.1

Pitts
Pass D - 16th 57.4 completion %
3rd in Run, but they only give up 3.4 yards/carry, (?)
scoring 3rd, 16.1

3rd down conversions: Pitts 4th, Denver 15th

Seems to me they are very close but Denver still has troubles with giving up the pass, which is why Shanny drafted so many 2ndary guys

basically I think both these teams do everything pretty well, and all things considered, I think Pittsburgh offers a better version of solid across the board, the only thing tipping the scale in Denver's favor is the HFA.

The 2 teams coming into Mile high both have plenty of big game experience, so I don't think Pittsburgh will be too phased - Cowher knows what to expect out of a game up there.

Denver beats Seattle in the Super Bowl in the most boring, run-grinding game in Super Bowl history.

Ron Dayne will instruct future Carnegie seminars, as his performance will win friends and influence MVP voters with his 80 yards and two TD's. Jake Plummer will return next season to Arrowhead, and his career will be cut short by a horse collar tackle by Jared Allen, while attempting a naked bootleg.

One thing (as Cocina brought up) to ponder is this:

Much like our defense, Denver's defense benefitted from an offense that could score and score early.

They were 1st in fewest rushing attempts against (we were 2nd). They were 15th in yards per carry (we were 20th).

If Pittsburgh can commit to the run, and Denver can't force them to the pass early in the game, Denver's defense is going to struggle.

Oh yeah, if either team can control the game with the run, it'll be a big advantage. Denver's tough to beat up front though, because they'll drop 8 or 9 guys in the box. They dare you to pass, then blitz the daylights out of you.
