It is a lot obviously, but it really isn't coming out of their pocket. They have sponsors and investors who own a piece of them. Very little if any comes out of their own pocket.

Maybe they convinced Andrew Beal to play in it (Texas Billionaire who's lost millions and millions throughout the years)
There was an excellent book about Beal a few years ago. He'd come to Vegas, word would get out, and pros would literally drop what they were doing and fly in to play him. He set up some head's-up games with bizarre conditions--like he would use a metronome and only act on every 5th beat or something in order to not develop any timing tells to the pros.

Since you dropped his name, you probably know all that though...just thought I'd mention it to others though...

Not ridiculously high stakes, but there was more money on a table than I've ever seen in a local casino...

When I was younger, I dealt poker for one of the casinos. I was one of three that were good enough to deal the weekly pot-limit Omaha game. Pots got big and it's a tough game to deal, and the regulars that played it were a tough crowd.

One night, shit got crazy - I don't remember the exact specifics of the hand but lets just say there was between $25-30k on the table and I dealt a one-outter river card that a player wasn't very happy with.

Threats were made and he was escorted off property. Word hit the room later that night that he had returned to the parking garage and was waiting for me. Security goes apeshit, looking all over for the guy. They never find him, so my boss forces me to be escorted to my car when my shift ends at 5:00 am.

If I had the ability to orchestrate hands of poker while dealing, I'd be retired in the BVI's right now.

Dude just overreacted. Lost over $25k because the ONE card that could cost him the pot came on the river.

Shitty, shitty luck. Dude just cracked.

What a ****ing loser, blaming the dealer. Some guy lost a pot to me one time at Hollywood, and then said the meanest shit to one of the female dealers. She had tears in her eyes. I don't tip $10 a hand, but I've never blamed the dealer for giving me bad cards. What a joke. They haven't been playing PLO that long in Kansas City, like 3 years? so must have been semi recently.

Wish I was a PLO player, games in Kansas City are pretty sick I hear. I don't know how to play it optimally, but I'm sure most of the Kansas City PLO player's don't either lol. Just not too comfortable with it. Most of the biggest higher stakes fish like to play PLO, more exciting for them I guess, which has dried out the NLHE games to some degree. I'm somewhat disgruntled about it lol. They used to play 2/5 and get some 5/10 NLHE going every day, now it seems like it only runs Wednesday, Friday and Saturday. All days I cannot play live due to the GF requiring me to hold hands and eat her food on those days.

Let me guess, the guy you gave the 1 outter River card to tipped you 5 bucks.

I was playing 5-10 limit no fold Em hold Em one night and was on such a heater I was chasing everything, playing every hand, and sucking out wins at a ridiculous clip. Everyone was pissed. Dude gets busted and gets in my face. You know me, and this dude was 5'6 and a buck sixty soaking wet. He gets in my face and is frothing at the mouth over it. I stood up and said "You want me to beat your ****ing ass right here in front of your friends over that 350 bucks I took off your hands?" Dude walked and no one said shit the rest of the night. People lose their ****ing minds over that shit. I told him play no limit the next time as he walked out the door. I have never pretended to be some kind of bad ass, nor do I respond that way too anyone unless you put your disrespect 3 inches from my face. It was Unreal.

I haven't played in a couple of years but I've got a bonus check that has me tempted as **** to cross that off my bucket list. It never really goes away once it gets in your blood.

Edit: Oops. Never mind. Just noticed that it's next week, not the end of the month.
