Apples to oranges. You're comparing a team that was ahead most of the time running the ball 60% of the time to a team who was usually down 3 scores most of the game passing the ball 60% of the time.

Fair enough.

Just saying that no Nebraska wide outs come to mind.

I know Martinez and Burkhead off the top of my head. Not having a team in the conference really affects my attention given to the respective team.

I don't think I'm the only one this has happened to either.

But back to KU Football.

After reviewing the stats from last season I can't help but be excited that Pierson and Bourbon will be carrying the load now over Sims and Miller. They are simply more explosive. Hopefully they're concentrating on pass protection being that they are going to both be seeing much more early down action.

NAME CAR YDS AVG LONG TD
James Sims 182 727 4.0 56 (TD) 9 (suspended 3 games)
Darrian Miller 136 559 4.1 23 4 (off team)
Tony Pierson 71 396 5.6 47 3
Brandon Bourbon 28 190 6.8 51 (TD) 1

Some other guy transferring to KU from Notre Dame, but doubtful he'll make any meaningful contribution.

Link

LAWRENCE, Kan. - Kansas football added another proven player to its roster in Anthony McDonald, who is joining the Jayhawks after transferring from Notre Dame. McDonald is scheduled to complete his degree in May, making him eligible to play for KU in 2012.

McDonald, a native of Burbank, Calif., played in 28 games for the Irish during his four seasons in South Bend. After sitting out the 2008 season as a true freshman, McDonald appeared in all 12 of Notre Dame's games during the 2009 season playing under then Irish head coach and current Kansas head coach Charlie Weis. McDonald, a 6-foot-2, 230-pound linebacker, collected 10 tackles in 2009 while playing primarily on special teams.

During the 2010 season, McDonald played in 11 games for the Irish and recorded 11 tackles. He tallied three tackles in games versus Michigan State, Stanford and Miami (Fla.). In his final season at Notre Dame, McDonald recorded three tackles, while seeing action in four games.

McDonald, who will graduate from Notre Dame next month with a degree in sociology, was selected to play in U.S. Army All-American Bowl in San Antonio following his senior season at Notre Dame High School, where he teamed up with fellow Jayhawk, senior quarterback Dayne Crist. McDonald, who was coached by Kevin Rooney at NDHS, was placed on the all-Southern California team by Southern California Football Coaches Association and Orange County Register and was also named to the first-team all-Southern California team by GoldenStatePreps.com after he recorded 79 tackles and one sack in 11 games during his senior season.

McDonald was ranked by Scout.com the eighth-best middle linebacker in the country and the 16th-best prospect in California. McDonald was considered the 22nd-best player in California by SuperPrep and the third-best linebacker in the state, while Rivals.com rated him No. 31 in the state of California and the 11th-best inside linebacker. McDonald's father, Mike, played at USC and was a long snapper for the Los Angeles Rams in the NFL.

With the addition of McDonald, Kansas has now signed 25 players to its 2012 signing class. The Jayhawks have added five players as Division I transfers, nine junior college transfers and 11 high school athletes.

Ash is the only MO player to verbal to Kansas in the past week (three Missouri players verballed in the past week, but two of them were to Missouri).

From what I've heard of him, he's very raw but has good speed and quickness and a decent first step. He's kind of a tweener - skill set would be great at DE if he were a little bit bigger. He has a thin frame that probably will never be able to support enough weight for him to play anything but LB. Needs to work on technique - tackling is a definite area of improvement for him.

If nothing else, could be potentially effective as a situational pass rusher.

Good analysis of Ash. I watched highlights of him and he misses a lot of tackles. On the plus side, the guy knows how to get to the QB. That's a more of a natural instinct, IMO. Tackling can be taught.

He really needs Holsapple's program, though, as he is listed as 6'3" and only 194lbs.

He did earn Missouri class 6A 1st team defense honors.

I misread the initial story... I stand corrected.

Getting to the QB certainly can't be understated. Instinct/desire/drive are key there, and he seems to have those.

The listed size - especially the weight - seems like a stretch to me, from seeing pictures of the kid. It looks like he has a really thin frame. Not sure he can get much above 220-225 without losing agility/speed. He looks a little bigger on film than in recent photos, though, and seems to have really long arms, which is a plus.

Also... pretty sure he was second-team all-state. That's where the Star lists him on the 2011 all-state team.

Kansas Football Spring Game Format Announced

April 18, 2012
LAWRENCE, Kan. - Kansas head football coach Charlie Weis has released the format for the 2012 KU Spring Game scheduled for Saturday, April 28. The Jayhawks will kick off at 1 p.m., inside Memorial Stadium and will use a live-game format. Admission to the game is free.
The following outlines the logistics of the game:
During pregame warm-ups, all defensive players will be in white jerseys and offensive players will be in blue jerseys, while quarterbacks will wear red jerseys. After warm-ups, offensive and defensive players will then change into their respective blue or white jerseys.
Game rosters will list players for a blue team and a white team.
Coaches for the blue team will be Rob Ianello (wide receivers), Jeff Blasko (tight ends), Charlie Weis, Jr. (student manager-offensive assistant), Dave Campo (defensive coordinator/defensive backs) and DeMontie Cross(linebackers).
Coaches for the white team will be Ron Powlus (quarterbacks), Reggie Mitchell (running backs), Tim Grunhard (offensive line), Clint Bowen (defensive backs), Maurice Crum (defensive graduate assistant), Matthew Middleton (quality control-offense) and Kyle Brey(quality control-offense).
Due to depth at defensive line, all defensive linemen will be dressed in alternate colored jerseys and will be rotated for both teams by Buddy Wyatt (defensive line) and Rod Jones(defensive graduate assistant).
Specialists will also wear an alternate color.
There will be no kickoff/kickoff returns. For possessions to start the half or after scores, the ball will be placed at the 30 yard line.
Punts/punt returns will end when the returner fair catches the ball, picks up a rolling ball or when a defensive player downs the ball. Normal rules will apply for touchbacks.
A coin toss will decide who gets the ball to start the game.
There will be four 15 minute quarters (running time). The clock will only stop for timeouts or injuries with the exception of the last two minutes of each half, in which normal game clock rules will be followed. (Officials may stop the clock at their discretion.)
MVP's will be announced after the game and the Jayhawks will join the band for the Alma Mater immediately following the game.

That spring game format may seem like nothing much to most people, but it says a lot to me. This is a microcosm of the way CW handles things. Weiss and staff are very detailed about everything. From everything I'm hearing this is a huge change from Radio and should, IMO, help KU become a much more competitive football team.

For comparison's sake:

From an article the day before Radio's first spring game at KU...

For the first time under coach Turner Gill, Kansas will publicly showcase next year’s team. And perhaps no position enters with as much outside interest as quarterback. Thing is, none of the guys involved in the highly publicized battle knew what to expect after Monday’s practice.

“They haven’t mentioned anything to me,” freshman Kale Pick said.

“I’m really not sure what the format is going to be,” freshman Jordan Webb said.

Mizzou offered Morrow yesterday, as well. I have also heard he has been receiving interest from other Big 12 teams.
