Zack Greinke takes loss in his 1st career perfect game...

http://www.sportspickle.com/article:...r-perfect-game

Quote:

Kansas City ace Zack Greinke pitched the first perfect game of the 2010 season last night, and the first of his career, setting all 27 Chicago White Sox batters in order. Greinke also struck out 13 batters in the Royals loss to fall to 0-4 on the season.

"It's tough to keep losing like this," said Greinke, who entered the game with a 2.27 ERA and 0.98 WHIP. "But I'm trying not to get down. I just have to go out my next start and do better."

Greinke's teammates apologized for their continued lack of run support for the reigning American League Cy Young Award winner. Kansas City had scored 12 runs in Greinke's six starts so far this season. That number dropped to 11 runs following last night's game.

"We just can't seem to string any hits together when he's on the mound," said Royals manager Trey Hillman. "It's just one of those things. Tonight was a great example. We had a guy on second with no outs in the third and didn't score, and we also had the bases loaded in the fifth with one out and didn't score. And then, of course, was the negative-run seventh inning, which really hurt."

The negative-run inning was a first in major league history. It's still unclear exactly what happened, but Royals third baseman Alex Gordon was at the plate and did something so incredibly awful that both teams agreed that Kansas City should be deducted a run.

"I didn't argue the decision," said Hillman. "Even for Alex it was pretty bad. It's a new low for him. Hopefully this is the bottom and it's only uphill for him from here."

The Royals hope the same for Greinke.

"I'd like to win a game this season. I really would," said Greinke. "That's my goal for the season: win one game. I think I deserve the right to be put into the lineup on the nights I pitch. I want a chance to help my own cause. I hit .279 my senior year in high school, you know. That's better than anyone else on this team can say."

I thought it was post worthy ONLY because of the hilarious slam on Alex Gordon.

I think it was on the right track, but it should day Grienke threw 9 3/4 of perfect game then on an 0-2 pitch in the 10th he bounced a curve ball that the batters swung and missed but for some reason we replaced Kendell in the 8th having Pena behind the plate, it bounces up and hit's him in the throat killing him. Pena falls face first and the ball engulfed into pena's fat. Alex Gordon Rushes in slowly from third and tries to roll over Pena's fat dead corpse with no luck, bentencourt was 10 feet away so a normal short stop would have the range to atleast help gordon move the dead bacon body, but he was still 7 feet out of range. Billy Butler Has a Long John Silvers induced stroke on first causing him o piss his pants. Callapso is yelling to ask where the ball is, but no one understands him because it is in spansh. Dejesus is chatting up a blond in left, Ankiel is having cold sweats in center thiking about his pitching career, and Guillen is pulling his appendix out with a swiss army knife in right. Grienke the only one with a chance comes through and finally gets the ball only to have ken harvey come out of the stands and crash into him causing the ball to come free and the runner called safe.

I call BS. No way Ken Harvey survives a fall from that high up, and if he did security would for sure taze him first. C'mon man, you£e better than this...

Edit: I don't know how to make the pound sign there^, but I'm not gonna change it cause I think it works.

Before anybody starts to feel TOO sorry for Zack Greinke, think about poor Harvey Haddix, the guy who IN REAL LIFE pitched 12 perfect innings and lost the game 1-0 in the 13th inning.

It's sad that Greike doesn't get better run support, but he is hardly unique in that regard.

Haddix will always be remembered for taking a perfect game into the 13th inning of a game against the Milwaukee Braves on May 26, 1959. Haddix retired 36 consecutive batters in 12 innings essentially relying on two pitches: fastball and slider. However, his Pittsburgh teammates didn't score, as Braves pitcher Lew Burdette was also pitching a shutout.

A fielding error by Don Hoak ended the perfect game in the bottom of the 13th, which brought Felix Mantilla to first base. Mantilla later advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt, which was followed by an intentional walk to Hank Aaron. Joe Adcock then hit a home run, ending the no-hitter and the game. However, in the confusion, Aaron left the basepaths and was passed by Adcock for the second out and the Braves won 2-0. Eventually the hit was changed from a home run to a double by a ruling from National League president Warren Giles; instead of three runs on a home run, Adcock was out having passed Aaron, and only the first Braves run counted. The score was changed to 1-0, but the Pirates and Haddix still lost.

Haddix's 12 and 2/3-inning, one-hit complete game, against the team that had just represented the NL in the previous two World Series, is considered by many to be the best pitching performance in major league history. Mazeroski later said of Haddix's dominance in the game, "Usually you have one or two great or spectacular defensive plays in these no-hitters. Not that night. It was the easiest game I ever played in."
