Is that Wedge at 1:57?
And Dane, your bud knocked it out of the park with the score for that trailer. Tell him we all said great job. |

It's extremely rare that a trailer is actually "scored" these days. Trailers generally consist of multiple cues licensed from various trailer albums from various Production Music Libraries. In this case, the Lucasfilm editor(s) chose an existing piece (that hasn't even been released yet!) that worked perfectly. That said, he's a big time Star Wars geek and was crazy stoked that this piece had been chosen. If the movie is close to what the trailer has shown, it'll be one of the best Star Wars films, ever. The only thing it sounds like it will be missing is a Jedi-Sith light saber battle. |

I also believe Disney and Alan Horn underestimated the public's want of new Star Wars properties. I don't think that KK did, as she came out with a strong plan of action, hiring Abrams, Kasdan, Edwards, Lord & Miller while announcing a continuation of the main saga and four stand alone movies. She wiped out the mostly goofy EU, set Star Wars Rebels in motion and oversaw the biggest box office draw ever in the SWU. But with the success of TFA, the idea of the anthology movies changed to "stories" but it was something necessary as they were boxed in by the Episodes. They couldn't really call it Star Wars Episode 3.9 (which essentially, it is) so "stories" became the moniker. But since it involves Vader and the Death Star, it's essentially an "episode". Hopefully, the Han Solo spinoff truly exists outside of the episodes. While I expect to see Lando and even Boba Fett, I'm hoping that's it. Let's see some Core World stories with new characters. |

KK, I admire for not acting like a gatekeeper of what works or not. Instead, identity talent and if you bring them together they will feed and play off one another. It's going to take a few people of tremendous talent and vision to give birth and real legs to stories completely outside the Episodes. Which, as you point out R1 isn't really. This is dipping their toe in the water of exploring the rest of the universe. Maybe these first 4 are a setup in the shallow end and sticking close to the OT before attacking the deep end. It helpful for the audience to ease them away from what they are familiar with, but it can be just as helpful to the creative staff writing and filming it so they can get their bearings and plot a roadmap.

There is so much territory to mine, whether it's giving people what they've always wanted to see in 7-9, theft of the Death Star plans in R1, a Han Solo movie and possibly an Obi Wan movie or trilogy (Ewan's been politicking very hard as of late). Beyond that, Lucasfilm can go way back to almost 1,000 years before the current timeline featuring a young Yoda and the Old Republic and can basically create a whole new galaxy of stories. |

A poor box-office showing for anything SW?
Unthinkable. |

Even Attack of the Clones, which I thought was mostly awful and was the lowest earning title in SW history to date, earned $649 million in 2002.
I think that Disney understands that all Star Wars properties aren't going to earn $2.1 billion, as The Force Awakens earned, but even $649 million on a $115 million dollar budget is a nice ROI. |

Do you think there's a way that expectation changes over time though? We won't have the droughts in between anymore. Is it possible that with 1 (or maybe 2) Star Wars films a year over the next decade + creates fatigue at some point? |

Only a matter of time before money dictates pushing for more than 1 per year. Short term profits won't justify losing the luster of the anticipation and huge draws like they had when they limited releases and they took on an event level of interest, buzz, and cultural significance.
