I'd agree, but I find it hard to think that they'll deal pack everything from Beorn to Smaug's demise into one movie. Just seems like alot, especially if you're adding all the Dol Guldur stuff. But it's also hard to imagine where you end the second movie if not with Smaug at Lake Town. So....yeah...I dunno.

Maybe the end of the second movie will be Smaug about to attack lake town.

Depends, really, on what he cuts or keeps, and where he wants the Dol Guldur stuff to fit in. Per the book, if memory serves, Gandalf splits off after Beorn's and doesn't meet up with them until the Battle of Five Armies, so Jackson can put it pretty much anywhere in either of the remaining two movies, or cut back and forth. He's got alot of flexibility and plenty of material for 6 or so hours worth of movies. It all depends on how he wants to put it together.

Which raises the question, is a cliff hanger suspenseful when you know the heroes can fall down the highest of cliffs and then simply dust themselves off and walk away?

I'm assuming, and it could be a big assumption, that the 2nd movie will end with the death of Smaug. Third movie will be more about Battle of 5 Armies, and Necromancer. They have to tie in the Battle of Dol Guldur as well.

I actually forgot Dol Guldur/Necromancer stuff...
Does Gandalf fight at the battle of the five armies? If not they could cut back and forth between that.

I'm actually pretty excited to see how well they pull off the Battle of Five Armies. That has hella potential. Eagles fighting wargs. Elves vs. Orcs. Thorin's Dwarves kicking ass in fancy armor. Beorn turning into a giant bear and laying waste to the entire Orc army, and eventually Bolg/Azog(however that works out). It could be the most awesome LOTR battle yet...

So did my wife. I have the 3 LOTR extended editions. Will probably end up buying all of the Hobbit extended editions, as well.
