Pats Cheating Comfirmed

According to the report, the league sources say the NFL determined 11 of the 12 footballs used by the Patriots were under-inflated by two pounds per square inch each. Per NFL rules, footballs are required to be inflated between 12.5 and 13.5 PSI and weigh between 14 and 15 ounces.

What an idiot. The refs are going to be all over them all game.
The more of this and the DeflateGate stuff get proliferated, the more I think a storyline gets forged that ends up with a convincing Patriot win.

I mean, didn't pro wrestling have times when a Heel got reeeeeeeal notorious with his chicanery and wound up trouncing a Hero...?

I mean, at least make a statement. Even if to say we are looking into it and here are the steps we are taking to find out the answer. He has been radio silent. A guy getting paid 44 million should at least speak about this shit.

The NFL's **process** unquestionably sucked. If you wanted to be sure that balls were at 12.5 PSI for the entire game, then you should have a much better process, including one that takes atmospheric issues into account.
The exact psi of the footballs is not really the issue. The fact that the Patriots seem to have modified the footballs AFTER the refs' approval is.

To much cash at stake to finish the investigation and interview Brady. If they found anything they would be forced to not let him play and that would kill all betting around the world. Goodell also is probably hoping the Pats lose so he can just hand a weak ass fine to his buddy. If they win it will be extremely tough for him not to hammer them hard.

Goodell always has a conflict of interest, to some degree, when it comes with investigating or punishing a specific team.

The reality is that the NFL Commissioner (and the commissioner of the other sports leagues) is NOT any kind of independent person/agency. They are selected by the owners of their league, and serve at the behest of those owners. The NFL itself is a non-profit corporation, but it is in fact run by the 32 owners. Nor would the owners have it any other way.

And it's undoubtedly true that different owners have different degrees of influence with the Commissioner, based on their relationship with the Commissioner, and the power of the particular owner.

But yeah, NOBODY should think of the Commish as someone like a federal judge or an independent arbiter.

All that said, he hammered the Patriots pretty good with Spygate, when there is no doubt there were other teams doing the same thing (as BB mentioned), so if he is inclined to show favoritism to the Patriots, I haven't seen it. It's also worth noting that if this was a "sting" operation, then that REALLY isn't showing any favoritism to the Patriots.

The sting part is an embarrassment to the league. Not only does it not make sense to do it that way, they then **** it up to hell and gone. Makes me think it wasn't, it was such a cluster****...

Then just face the media and say you don't want to address it until the facts are available. He's ignored the media entirely.

Which is hilarious coming from a commissioner that fines the shit out of Marshawn Lynch for not making himself available for interviews.

Key words. Would be especially good to know the precise before/after readings on the balls there, to see if atmospheric conditions could be some/all of the issue.

One thing is for sure -- if PSI is a key requirement for NFL footballs, they have a relatively lousy process around the whole thing since it clearly does NOT include adjusting for atmospheric conditions.

This is hilarious. Atmospheric conditions do not have much of an effect at all on a small pressure vessel like a football. As evidence, please consider the fact that ALL of the Colts' balls stayed within regulation pressure for the entire four hours of the game (dry, wet, warm, cold, whatever).

Please consider that (1) there is no evidence, discussion or information whatsoever about the Colts process (compared to the Patriots' process, as to which Belichick went in detail, (2) there is no evidence regarding the precise AMOUNT by which the balls were underpressure, and (3) there is no evidence regarding the starting PSI amount for the Colts' footballs.

Perfectly plausible hypothetical for the Colts -- they inflated their balls to 13.5, and did it outside. Patriots balls went from 12.5 to 11.5, while Colts went from 13.5 to 13.0.

Do I know that to be true? Heck no. That's just it, the NFL has given us NOTHING. We don't know anything beyond what BB told us about the Patriots pre-game process.

Here's the bottom line on a few of these things.
1. The atmospheric pressure was the same for the balls used by both teams, so that shouldn't matter.
2. Defenders need to quit saying it is only 1 or 2 PSI. They are only required to be around 12 psi. 1PSI is about 8%, and 2 is about 16%. That is alot. You want to give up 8% of your salary, get 8% less gas mileage, etc. 8% is alot.

3. And the biggest issue is this one. The Patriots game balls somehow became deflated during the time period from when they were checked by the refs to when the game started. It is pretty obvious that someone on the Patriots did it. Who ordered it, who did it, and who knew about it really aren't the issue. It happened. When it happens on your watch, you are responsible. PERIOD.

There is no punishing them at this point this season. I'd see if there was a way to decrease their salary cap for the next season or two by 8%. That seems about fair. If they can't do that, then snag a second rounder in the draft from them.

What is Rivers against the Patriots? I took a couple minutes to look it up. 1-6, with two playoffs losses, and the sole win comign when Brady was hurt in 2008 (making him 0-6 versus Brady). Ouch. I feel your pain. I remember hating some teams back when the Patriots were ok but not great too.
Ah yes, the tired old "you're jealous, you're mad about losing to us" ad hominem argument. Gee, with the amount of people who are supposedly mad and jealous of the Cheatriots, you'd think they haven't lost a game since 2001.

Not true. I have seen a soccer ball explode that was at the top of it's limit for psi when inside an air conditioned building and then taken outside in a hot environment.
