I personally think that crude is overvalued at near $100. This has a lot to do with speculation and the weak dollar, and not so much to do with supply and demand, IMO. I still think it will drop back to ~$70.00 by year's end.

I hope so, anyway.

Interesting that the current price is still about what it was in 1980, adjusted for inflation.

Same here. We have a Jeep and I drive an Intrepid. We pretty much take the Intrepid everywhere, it gets about 6-8 MPG better than the Jeep.

Gotta do what ya gotta do...

I don't believe we will, but even so, price is on a steady trend upward.

We have been producing a steady 84/85 mbd for two years with a steep rise in demand.

With skyrocketing price we should see much more supply if it was available. There are a myriad of reasons why its not, not the least of which, many fields are peaking. Add China demand, Mexican floods, the North Sea decline, the middle east disaster and what is left is 100 dollar oil.

I believe it will go much higher before demand destruction cuts the price.

BTW - wholesale oil futures for April just beat 2.60. We will see 4 - 4.50 gas in the spring.

Indy cars use 99% ethanol with 1% of gas for poisoning per ATF regulations. I bet they're loving all the corn farmers out there.

Here is one reason why crude prices will stay high through the Xmas season.

Oil Movements - an oil tanker tracking service, says OPEC will not ship any extra oil in November. Further, the U.A.E. will drop production 810,000 bpd for maintenance during November.

Meanwhile, Opec exports, excluding Angola, rose by a fraction in the four weeks to November 24, despite the oil cartel’s promise to boost output by 500,000 barrels per day (bpd) from November 1, an analyst who estimates future shipments said on Thursday.

“It’s what I was expecting to see given what we knew about the number in advance: that there isn’t any extra Middle East oil or Opec oil in November,” Roy Mason of consultancy Oil Movements said. He said the 50,000 bpd shipment rise was negligible, reiterating that the extra 500,000 bpd pledged by Opec this month had been offset by oil maintenance field outages in the United Arab Emirates.

DJ OPEC Shipments In 4 Wks To Nov 24 Seen +0.05M B/D-Tracker

LONDON, Nov 08, 2007 (Dow Jones Commodities News via Comtex) -- Tight winter oil supplies are seen ahead as not enough crude is being moved to help build up stockpiles with OPEC shipments set to rise by a paltry 50,000 barrels a day in the four weeks to Nov. 24 from the previous one-month period, U.K. tanker tracker Oil Movements said Thursday.

Shipments by the Organization of Petroleum Exporting countries are seen rising to a total of 24.28 million barrels a day, compared with 24.23 million barrels a day in the four weeks to Oct. 27, said Roy Mason, head of the consultancy.

That is 470,000 barrels a day less than at this time last year, according to Oil Movements' data.

"It means there will be no offshore stockpiles for the winter," said Mason.

"We would normally see at this point a build in oil in transit as long-haul sailings gear up for the winter, and that's not happening," Mason explained. "This year, there's nothing."

"It means that in November, there are no extra OPEC barrels," he said.

Going from $3.00 - $3.20 to $4.00 - $4.50 is quite a jump. I don't see that happening, honestly. At least not for a few years.
