I am on the Heat bandwagon because of LeBron. I would be a fan of any team that had Kobe, LeBron, or Durant on them.

I was on the Jordan bandwagon back in the 90's and again when he went to the Wizards. I won't be upset if they don't win like I would the Broncos. I just like watching Kobe, Durant, and LeBron play.

Heat maneuvering opens door for Udonis Haslem, with Mike Miller deal close

By Ira Winderman South Florida Sun Sentinel

1:48 a.m. EDT, July 10, 2010

MIAMI —
Udonis Haslem apparently will not be left out of the party.

The Miami Heat mainstay who seemingly was about to be left out of the franchise's return to its heyday, appears to be on the verge of a free-agent return after some late maneuvering by Heat President Pat Riley.

In a significant turn of events, the Heat completed a sign-and-trade agreement Friday night with the Cleveland Cavaliers for free-agent forward LeBron James, who already had agreed to join the Heat,

The maneuver offered Riley the flexibility to re-sign Haslem. An NBA source said Friday the expectation was Haslem would now return to the Heat.

"We're working on his situation," agent Henry Thomas told the Sun Sentinel Friday night by email.

The Heat also is has been involved in plans to add Washington Wizards free-agent swingman Mike Miller, with that deal expected to be finalized early next week. The Heat has been talking with the former University of Florida standout about a contract in the five-year, $27 million range.

In essence, the Heat is completing its end game.

Re-signed Heat guard Dwyane Wade said he is hopeful of Haslem remaining.

"He's been a part of this with me for seven years," Wade said, having entered the league along with Haslem in 2003. "I feel like we built basketball in this city together. He has a decision to make.

"We want Udonis back and we're going to do everything we can to make sure Udonis stays home."

Riley said he is working to make that happen.

"We're very, very active in conversations with him," Riley said. "I have a very good feeling that we're going to be able to do something.

"I think there might be some good news at the beginning of the week with U.D."

Asked of Riley's ability to rebuild the roster, Wade smiled.

"He's already in the Hall of Fame. What more you want?" he said with a grin. "He looked at me eye to eye and told me we're going to do it."

Owner Micky Arison said the team had several well-known players eager to join the team's revitalized mix.

The Heat also finished off a sign-and-trade agreement Friday with the Toronto Raptors that allowed it to offer free-agent power forward Chris Bosh a six-year free-agent contract instead of the maximum five-year contract an outside free agent can receive. The Raptors, in turn, will receive the Heat's 2011 first-round pick and the future pick that Toronto owed to the Heat.

It was learned Friday that James, Wade and Bosh took significantly less than the maximum allowable $16.6 million 2010-11 starting salary on their new contracts, each now starting in the $14.5 million range, shaving about $15 million off their maximum totals.

Also, each can terminate their six-year contracts after four seasons, with a right to opt out after the fifth. The new collective-bargaining agreement, however, could make the financial sting too punitive to exit the deals early.

"What we signed today for is not important," James said. "What is important is we all sacrificed money.

"We didn't take the max deals."

Riley said the trade of 2008 No. 2 overall draft pick Michael Beasley to the Minnesota Timberwolves has not been finalized, but would be shortly.

"With this particular move," Riley said of adding James and Bosh and re-signing Wade, "we felt that in order to bring in other complementary players, we had to go in that direction."

Riley also reiterated he would not return to coach the Heat.

"Erik Spoelstra is coach of this team and he's going to coach this team," Riley said.

With the sign-and-trade with Cleveland, James also became eligible to receive a six-year package, instead of the maximum five-year deal an outside free agent could receive. The Cavaliers received a package two first-round picks and two second-round picks from the Heat, as well as the right to swap first-round picks in 2012.

With those signings completed, the Heat then turned its attention to retaining Haslem. The Heat entered Friday able to only offer Haslem a veteran-minimum 2010-11 contract of $1.1 million. The Heat then could have made up the money to Haslem in 2011-12 and beyond.

However, with Bosh and James acquired at lower-than-expected starting salaries, wiggle room was created for a Haslem return.

"We've got other teammates, as well," Wade said, hinting of a done Haslem deal by mentioning the forward's ability to hit timely shots. "There's other guys on that basketball court that can hit that shot."

Haslem has had contact with several teams, with the Utah Jazz emerging as a suitor in the wake of losing free-agent power forward Carlos Boozer to the Chicago Bulls.

The Orlando Sentinel is reporting that Orlando Magic free-agent forward Matt Barnes said he has been in contact with the Heat. Barnes earned $1.6 million last season, opting out of the $1.6 million he otherwise would have earned this coming season.

Other names linked to the Heat are free-agent guards Jason Williams and Mike James, and Cavaliers free-agent center Zydrunas Ilgauskas, who apparently is looking at as many as six suitors, unlikely to return to the LeBron-less Cavaliers.

Riley also reportedly has a Saturday meeting scheduled with Los Angeles Lakers point guard Derek Fisher, although the finances would not appear to work. It is, however, a sign of league-wide interest in the Heat's new high-powered trio.

Friday's welcome rally included a "Beat L.A.!" chant.

"L.A. is the team that I think every team in the NBA wants to get to that point," James said. "But it's not about just beating L.A.

"It's a process, starting from training camp."

No matter the ultimate composition of the roster, Wade appreciates something special is in place.

"Every place is going to sell out when we come on the road," he said. "So they can thank us now."

James said it will be about more than just a big three.

"This is about the whole team," James said. "It's about the whole organization."

LBJ, Bosh, Wade Take Less Money, Hold ETO For 2014

Jul 10, 2010 5:48 AM EST

LeBron James and Chris Bosh signed matching six-year, $110.1 million contracts, sources told ESPN The Magazine's Ric Bucher.

Dwyane Wade signed for six years and $107.5 million, according to the sources.

Sources told ESPN.com's Chad Ford that James and Bosh are scheduled to make $14.5 million and Wade $14 million in 2010-11.

Each player took $15 million less over the life of the contract to sign with Miami, but they have an opt out after the fourth year to all potentially become free agents in 2014.

The Heat sent two future first-round and two second-round picks to the Cavaliers for James, while packaging two first-round picks to the Raptors for Bosh.

Source Speculates Riley Will Return As Coach

League sources have told the New York Daily News that Pat Riley will at some point replace Erik Spoelstra as head coach of the Heat.

"Pat won't come back for just Wade and Bosh, because that's not a sure thing in Pat's mind," said one Eastern Conference coach before Miami officially landed LeBron James.

"But with LeBron and those two, that's a sure thing for Pat. He will come back if they get LeBron."

If we are talking about what team I would rather have for the upcoming season strictly, I would rather have:

Ray Allen
Tony Allen
Kevin Garnett
Rondo
Jermaine Oneil
Big Baby
Paul Pierce
Rasheed Wallace
and the rest

over

James
Wade
Bosh
and the rest

and I would surely rather have the Lakers roster from last year over those three. Again, if we are just talking for the upcoming season.

That can change given the role players they will likely add and it may effect my opinion, but at this point that hasnt happened yet.

I thought Lebron was a free agent? Why does Miami have to give up picks? I don't follow the NBA much.

Cavs work out deal with Heat, will get picks for LeBron
July 10, 2010
CBSSports.com wire reports

CLEVELAND -- The Cavaliers made sure they got something back for LeBron James.

After losing the superstar to Miami, the Cavs worked out a deal with the Heat, acquiring two future first-round draft picks and two second-round picks.

Cleveland gets two first rounders starting in 2013 and continuing through 2017, and the Heat's 2012 second-round pick from New Orleans and a future second-round pick Miami acquired from Oklahoma City.

The Cavs also have the right to swap first-round picks with the Heat in 2012. Cleveland also picked up a trade exception that could be worth up to $16 million.

"This deal provides us with multiple key assets and additional flexibility as we move forward for both the short term and beyond," Cavaliers general manager Chris Grant said in a release.

It didn't appear the Cavs would do a deal with Miami involving James, especially after Cleveland owner Dan Gilbert lambasted the MVP in the hours after he announced he was leaving.

The Cavs own(ed) his Bird rights. If he signed outright with Miami they could only sign him for a maximum of 5 years. By completing a sign-and-trade they signed James for 6 years and obtained more cap flexibility which will allow them to sign Mike Miller & Udonis Haslem.
