NBA Jam was rigged.

Back in the 90′s, the Chicago Bulls were unbeatable, unless you were playing the arcade game, NBA Jam. In a recent interview with ESPN’s magazine, the video game’s lead designer, Mark Turmell, revealed that NBA Jam was rigged against the Bulls. Turmell is a Detroit Pistons fan and told the sports magazine: “If there was a close game and anyone on the Bulls took a last second shot, we wrote special code in the game so that they would average out to be bricks. There was the big competition back in the day between the Pistons and the Bulls, and since I was always a big Pistons fan, that was my opportunity to level the playing field.” There was also a special code written in to lower Scottie Pippins ratings whenever he came up against the Pistons. According to Turmell, fights would break out in arcades over who’s turn it was to play. Midway eventually sold more than 20,000 units and was the first to have secret characters players could unlock. |
