HBO greenlights A Game of Thrones pilot! (spoilers)

HBO has given the production order.

They will be filming the pilot episode of A GAME OF THRONES.

It's just the pilot so far. They'll need to see that before they decide whether to proceed with a full season's episodes. So let's all hope the pilot will kick serious ass.

It should. David Benioff and Dan Weiss did a terrific job with the script. And yes, all of you can relax, it's very faithful. Dan and David will be the executive producers for the pilot and (we hope) the eventual series.

More details when I have 'em. The news is very fresh. HBO just issued their own press release, which should be up on their website soon, if it's not there already.

Winter is coming to HBO. Hot damn.

Yes, the Wire probably had the worst ratings of any show on HBO, other than the shows that only lasted a season.

One thing on ratings: Dish was offering free trial HBO on Sunday. I only mention this because I tuned in, but I'll be watching online or at a friend's house from here on out.

I am thinking they will go with something like "Game of Thrones - A Clash of Kings". Those who read the books know that is bullshit, but they will want to capitalize on any brand recognition that the title Game of Thrones built during this season.

I think most cable systems had a free trial as well. I have no idea how much that will impact ratings.

I did finally see an ad for HBO go, kind of cool to be able to access all episodes of every HBO series online.

Yeah, Winter is Coming was just the setup. Although I would imagine much of the second episode will continue to be setup.

I tought the premiere was amazing. Exceeded my expectations, and my expectations were higher for this show than almost any TV show I've ever watched. Every aspect was nailed.

It makes me sad that the book series isn't finished. It also makes me sad to think that this show won't get a full run. 2 Seasons is great, of course. But it's so good that not having the whole story will really bum me out.

Also, it makes me really sad that The Dark Tower is going to be on cable TV. Game Of Thrones and HBO are proving what can be done with great material. Would that HBO had The Dark Tower as well...

Finally, I imagine the show will be called Game Of Thrones as long as it runs. But I'd imagine that one episode each season (each premiere?) will be named after the books.

I would pay for the bluray of a season before it is ever even made if it would help keep it from getting canceled!

I hope that hbogo will someday shift to a pay service that allows you to not have cable or other traditional delivery. I hate paying for cable for the shows I watch, mostly found on 5 or 6 channels. I would do legitimate downloads if it was less hassle. This one is here, that one is only available over there. This one can't be watched without flash, blah blah blah.

Content delivery is in a shit state when much content is really quite good now. For now I still deal with a monthly cable bill, mostly for game of thrones.
