But that's the time frame I gave him and offense to start doing something. I've said it over and over again that this was a new/young offense and come mid season they should start doing much better. They just needed a little more time to get everyone on the same page, especially with the injuries at TE...which is a key component to the WCO.

Except it didn't happen at midseason. And it only started happening after his coach told him that he'd never be a great QB if he didn't push the ball downfield more.

This isn't about a young offense coming together. This is about Alex Smith coming out of his shell.

To his credit, he's been trying real hard to do exactly that.

I guess you missed the qualifier.

There's a significance to it that has nothing to do with the point in time during the season - it happened during the bye week.

This team didn't need TIME. Alex Smith needed a kick in the ass.

No, I get it but how do you push the ball downfield when you're running for your life most of the time, getting penalties to make for long 1st and 2nd downs, and be able to trust that your WRs will make the catch or fight for the ball.
