I can't understand why you would buy a car like that and then not drive it. It's great for collectors now, but that guy deprived himself of enjoyment.

You buy two, park one and drive the other. By the time you wear out the first, hopefully the second one has appreciated in value to cover the cost of them both.

According to the article, there are people questioning the authenticity of the car being all original. Still, that's one hell of a find. Too bad this guy didn't have anyone to will it to. Damned shame, actually.

that.
I was at a car show last year and there was a '70 Chevelle SS with a 454; red with black stripes. with 583 miles on it. of course, who knows if that's legit, but the dude had all sorts of shit framed with the car; original window sticker, etc. I can't imagine buying a new Vette and just driving it once a month for 10 miles a pop.

I bought a 2005 Mustang. It was the first year of the first retro remakes of the muscle car era. People told me to not put miles on it, it could be valuable some day.
I got 135K on it now. Enjoyed the hell out of it as a cool drivable car. Too many people see money to be made on a car instead of just enjoying the ride.

A buddy of mine bought a 2014 Mustang Shelby GT500, the souped up one with 660HP. He takes it out on nice days, but overall he looks at it as an investment for down the road thinking that some hardcore collector is going to come looking for such a vehicle 20 years down the road.

Nothing wrong with buying a piece of art just to enjoy looking at it and experiencing satisfaction of ownership...

I think this is why this kind of story and the corvette hall of fame story. Us car lovers love these old cars as art. We may never own it, but we appreciate it from afar.
