Harrison of NFL.com ranks his top 10 QB's of '15 and Alex....
You can read the full list and see video here
Here's a small excerpt Competition was fierce at the 10-spot, coming down to Cam Newton, Matt Ryan, Eli Manning, Joe Flacco and Matthew Stafford. If we were talking overall careers, Manning would be the choice. Flacco presents an interesting argument, because he tends to light it up in nationally televised games. At the same time, there's no question he's been inconsistent since winning Super Bowl XLVII. Stafford's inaccuracy in key spots has driven Lions fans crazy. Newton's calling card has never included on-the-mark throws, but his overall game can be a nightmare for defenses. Ryan, meanwhile, has been the most consistent, and was ultimately the toughest to leave off. So why Smith? |

Top 10? Over Cam Newton, and SB winning QBs?....meh...i donno. Smith IS better than many give him credit for (especially on here) but I'm not sure about top 10......a deep playoff run and then maybe top 10...but now? I'd say no. But Smith is an underrated QB. He efficient and well rounded. Lets see what he does this year now that the team seems to have made improvements at o line and wr

I think we can all agree that if Alex Smith is going to prove us wrong/right, it will be this season. There are no more excuses, the line was upgraded. The WRs were upgraded. This season is shit or get off the pot, for Alex.

Alex Smith isn't going to prove anyone right or wrong. For 10 years he has been a slow developer who turned into a good game managing QB. End of story. His records, stats and production speak for themselves. If he happens to have a better year in year 11, then he has a better year. It doesn't really change what he has been.

Peyton certainly does.
Brunell absolutely did not. 3 wins in 6 seasons does not constitute 'having one's number'.

because people here are painfully stupid.
They talk out of both sides.. admitting that their WRs and OL are trash.. yet still expecting the QB to excel with them. If he doesn't play like the best, it's his fault... all the while they curse the bottom 5 WRs, OL, and even Andy Reid's playcalling. ... but the QB is supposed to rise above all of these things. And why? because just maybe the few elite QBs have done so? stupid.

... and yet, so few actually can. Or if they manage to, it is seldom, and done by only the few elite.

Then why give Alex a contract that puts him at 6th in guaranteed money for QB's if he CANT do that? Alex Smith got $16M more guaranteed dollars than a QB that signed a contract after he carried his team to a SB win. How ****ing stupid is that?

... because they know that with a decent supporting cast, he can. They give him the contract... then upgrade the OL and WR positions that were sorely lacking... and THEN we see if they are correct.
