The 49ers have expressed to others that a deal for QB Alex Smith is effectively complete. Can't be finalized til league year begins 3/12

Jason La Canfora ‏@JasonLaCanfora

so it's not official, both clubs view it at as it's effectively done. I do not know the other team. KC and JAX are 2 teams that make sense

They should change it to the National Fantasy League cause that is more important than winning I guess. People don't want to win anymore they want excitement. I guess that makes sense, but I would rather win than have a guy throw 200 yards, manage an offense, get Charles involved with adjustments at the line than a 300 yards and 100 rushing and lose becauseA) dude is too young B) people too enamoured with an offense I feel will be dead in a year or two.

Conventional QB's are the way to go, unless you have a guy like Wilson, Kaep, or RG3. I'm sorry I don't see G. Smith being any one of those.
YOU are benefiting from the fruits of DRAFTING a QB and have him take you to the superbowl and you want to spew your shit about the chiefs fans being silly for not wanting Alex ****ing Smith and drafting a Left Tackle at #1 overall when we already have one of the best LT in the league?

and then you top it off by calling Geno Smith a running QB.

yeah...because thats only the 500th time I've seen someone say that.

In reality I was happy the rumor was to KC because I DON'T WANT TO FACE HIM TWICE A YEAR.

Clearly I have a much better opinion of him than you guys do.

would you rather have Alex Smith or Kaepernick?

I know your answer... and yes, same with us.

We would rather take a chance on a future star to call our own than take yet ANOTHER teams leftover like we have done for 30 ****ing years.
You 49er fans have no clue what its like to root for a terrible franchise that keeps making the same mistake over and over.

Bring in a guy like Alex Smith who has played extremely well the past two seasons, and even if he doesn't work out you still have at least a guy that brings leadership, doesn't make mistakes, 18-5(19-6 w/ playoffs), and 2 of his last 4 games were about as perfect as you can have. 18/19 for 233 and 3 tds, 8/9 1 td his game he was hurt and his 300 yard 3td game against the Bills in which he was nearly perfect as well. Not to mention leading the league in completion percentage, QBR, td/int ratio (remember 3 of his 5 were in one game in which he had a broken finger).

This idea that the media has portrayed on Alex has obviously gotten to fans here. Alex may not be an explosive QB that everyone wants but he is no Matt Cassel. With him being coached by Reid running a WCO in which he has plenty of experience, with him having Charles as a RB with a decent line, I think Alex could win your division for you.

If not at the very least you have a stop gap that is better than any of these other guys I've seen mentioned. Alex has 2 years in a row of playing well, Matt Flynn has 2 games. Matt Cassell? Go ahead and stay with him and see how far you go.
You might want to sit down before reading this...

Chiefs fans do not give a FLYING fuck about winning the division. Chiefs fans are sick to death of having a team that is good enough to win a division (if the schedule breaks right and there are no injuries) but has no realistic shot of winning the whole thing because it has a caretaker at QB.

Yes, Kansas City would probably be a better team on Day 1 next year with Alex Smith at QB than Geno Smith or anyone else available. Yes, Alex Smith is a proven commodity who isn't going to hurt you.

But he's also not a guy who can WIN games for you in the playoffs. He's not going to lead a team to comeback victories when elimination is on the line.

He's good enough to get you to the dance, but he's going to step on your feet once you get there.

KC has had its fill of QBs that fit that description. Especially ones who used to play for the 49ers. It spent the 90s locked into that cycle, and came away with absolutely nothing to show for it (except for AFC West titles in 95 and 97, woo).

It's about winning the Super Bowl. You win the Super Bowl with Qbs who can make plays in today's NFL. Gunslingers who can make things happen. Not game managers like Alex Smith, who can be successful if they have great running attacks and defenses around them.

So, yes, Chiefs fans WOULD rather roll the dice on Geno Smith at No. 1 overall (BTW, if you haven't noticed, he's creeping up draft boards) and his upside as a potential franchise, upper tier guy, than trade for Alex Smith and rely on his proven floor and nonexistent upside.

Geno Smith can be the guy you need to win in the playoffs. Alex Smith can not.

We, as fans, are aiming higher than winning our division and flaming out in the second round of the playoffs. And it's about goddamn time the organization did, too.

This is so ****ing reeruned...I flat out guarantee you whoever you end up facing twice a year with regards to AZ will be a scarier QB

If youre scared of a game manager who gets about 150 ypg, youre just a sissy****, IMO

Geno Smith IS a conventional QB, you racist moron.

He's a conventional, pass-first QB in the mold of Aaron Rodgers, Sam Bradford, Andrew Luck (great athlete who CAN hurt with his legs but is all about making plays with his arm.)

Well he is a mobile QB but that is besides my op.

Thanks. I am an Alex Smith fan, so that's what brought me here. I think maybe if people here got to know what Alex is about they would change their tune. Maybe it's going to happen that way? I just don't think many people here are too knowledgeable(sp) on Alex's abilty.

I understand people not liking Smith(I've dealt with it for years), but to not like a guy that will come in and put some stability in your QB situation for at least a season or two, help get Charles more yardage with his best ability in reading defenses before the snap. Alex was also top rated QB against the blitz and pressure.

Why would you not want that? Why would you guys not want to get better and have a guy like Alex possibly take you to the playoffs? It's not like you are signing him to a huge contract, and with Andy Reid I think Alex could be just as good if not better playing for you guys.

They guy will come in and offer immediate leadership. If you draft a QB he will help him learn the game(ask Kaep. and our coaches how much Alex has helped). The guy will work his tail off and he will be playing with a huge chip on his shoulder.

Again why not get better? Do you guys really think Alex is that bad? As I said I understand wanting a Super Star QB but I don't see one around anywhere. Alex will make your team better, and you already have a decent foundation. I just don't see why so many are opposed to that.

Geno Smith ran 66 times last year for 151 yards. In his last year in college, Aaron Rodgers ran 74 times for 126 yards, so hoow does that make Geno a running Quarterback? He is a running Quarterback who can run. **** you.

You turning this into a race thing is what's racist. Just cause I say a qb is mobile means he's black? Didn't I say steve young was the last mobile QB to win a Super Bowl.

FYI Steve Young is white.'

And all these guys like the Oregon QB man he's black too cause he's mobile. Mobile means black. That's not racist?

So, we need to get Charles MORE yards??? because him being one of the best backs in football already has done us SO WELL!

Did you see Kaepernick as a future super star? Exactly. Teams HAVE TO TAKE A CHANCE, not settle for other teams scrubs. The 49ers know Alex Smith is not good enough and that is why he is being shopped. If he was good enough, you assholes would still be starting him next season.

Alex Smith is FINE if they give up little (5th round or later, maybe a conditional 4th round pick) and still draft a QB, preferably Geno Smith at No. 1.

It's an epic disaster, and the same goddamn disaster we've been watching for 30 years, if they trade for Alex Smith and don't draft anything but developmental guys, late.
