Don't you have to fire the coach and hire a GM first?

Ferentz would be my second choice behind Schwartz. He has done a good job at Iowa, its not exactly the easiest place to win in the world. He does have some pro experience. Could be a Jimmy Johnson type deal if some of the pieces work oUT.

He's never been anything more than an OL coach in the NFL.
After just going through the nightmare of having a coach with no coordinator experience, I can see why people might be spooked. There isn't exactly a long list of guys that came from the college ranks and were successful HC's in the NFL, either. |

There's no way this is true. Forget the fact that you'd hire the GM first and then the HC (once you've actually fired the current coach.)
The NFL also has the famous "Rooney rule" which stipulates that a franchise must interview at least one minority through it's process. This is clearly a rumor borne on the Pioli/Ferentz package which we don't even know is true. After all, remember the reports about Pioli's alleged demands of total control? Evidently that's not true, either. None of this could happen without media awareness unless Clark Hunt doubles as Jack Bauer and meets these people in other countries' torture cells. I would be curious about any of these guys as HC: Shanahan, Frazier, Spagnuolo, Ferentz, Schwartz, or Jon Gruden (but I guess he won't be available.) I'd also like to see Rich Gannon hired as a QB coach to tutor Thigpen. |
