RAPOPORT: Steve Spagnuolo, Dennis Allen, John Pagano names to watch at DC
Just heard on NFL Total Access.... FWIW. https://twitter.com/rapsheet/status/...864004097?s=21
Allen, the Saints DC, is a free agent for those who may read that and wonder. Last edited by pugsnotdrugs19; 01-22-2019 at 05:45 PM.. |

It makes it REALLY embarrassing for your argument when Speaks was basically a DE running around in open space despite being the slowest guy on the field and still getting similar stats.

I'm not getting into this shit anymore. That you're doing this much gymnastics to literally give the guy who coached two pro bowlers zero credit for their success... to the point of exaggerating their ineffectiveness and crediting contract years... is just petty stubbornness to prove some kind of dumb point. |

This is not an endorsement, but three other names for the possible DC position would be Mike Smith, John Fox, or Marvin Lewis.

If he goes with a first time DC he will have to bring in a Spagnuolo type in a Senior Defensive asst role. I assume his hire will not be a first time DC. Interesting to note with Spagnuolo ties is Andre Curtis of the Seahawks and Matt House the Kentucky DC a few have mentioned when talking about up and coming college coaches were both on Spagnuolo’s staff when he was HC of the Rams. 2009-2011

Allen has someone to give Reid input as Emmitt Thomas was the Falcons DB coach when Wade Phillips was DC and later HC with Ed Donatell the DC. Allen was a quality control coach/defensive assistant just breaking into the league. Then Gary Gibbs who was obviously here with Reid until this year knows Allen as when Gibbs was Sean Payton’s first DC Allen was the asst DL coach then when Gregg Williams became DC Allen was the secondary coach. Then of course John Fox took him to Denver to give him his first DC job he only held for a year before becoming the Raiders HC. Fox, Kubiak and Del Rio are all good friends that’s pretty well known but Dennis Allen and Reid being interested has plenty to do with recommendations from ET Fox and Gibbs most likely putting in a good word to interview him

Fox and Del Rio are possible candidates for the bengals DC job I read somewhere. Both have ties somehow to Zac Taylor the bengals new HC. Normally I would say no way to Lewis taking a demotion to DC after all those years in cincy...plus you figure he would take a year off. But the dynamic of Mahomes and the possibility of helping KC win a SB and getting plenty of credit/fame helping this team over the hump plus a more than likely big contract...in this situation I wouldn’t rule out Lewis being interested. Still not likely imo

Reid doesn't have a good track record for this hire. He had one great DC. I hope Veach or someone besides Reid is leading the search. This is a crucial hire and some terrific DC's were hired before Sutton was fired. I hope the Chiefs take their time here and don't settle.

I would be shocked if Reid goes with a position coach outside of KC that he doesn’t have a history with.
No confidence in them getting this right mostly due to the lack of good experienced options. |

For the "out-of-left-field" pick, I'd love to see Matt House get the job.
Chances are slim to none, but I think it'd be a pretty ****ing aggressive choice, one that shows Reid isn't going to chance anything. If he's going to make this a real Super Bowl run, he's going to go in full guns blazing and actually WIN IT this time... or he'll fail spectacularly. I'd rather have that than some Mike Smith mother****er. |

I feel ya. Andy hires buddies that he knows. That's why Bob was given one more chance and it turned out to be a huge blunder.
