49ers have completed a trade with the Chiefs for Alex Smith, tho can't be official til March 12. Chiefs really made a commitment to Smith

Deal has been agreed upon between Chiefs and 49ers. Compensation unclear but I'm told again Chiefs have made a clear commitment to Smith.

Yet what happens when someone simply disagrees with a majority point of view? Even one that had been echoed through multiple draft analysts, in this case...

Given the lack of options at the time (except Carr) I think the extension was a necessary thing. Alex was the exact steady presence the team needed at the time. Now, the tools around him are held back by him so after this season it's time to move on. I believe if defenses are scared we'll go deep that in itself will make the run game (and the screen game)much more effective.

Don't put words in my mouth. It certainly wasn't all Smith's fault, but there are obviously things a good quarterback can do to help the run game.

I never said or meant to say that you specifically responded with these things... but we all know a sizable portion does. So props to you and some others for not representing CP in the way I described.

If I were one to have "hurt feelings" on a forum, I'd have left years ago. I don't take this stuff personally... so you need not contemplate apology, even if in theory.

I think I set pretty fair expectations for Smith and he hit them pretty much on the nose. The organization gave him some time to prove he could do better than just a playoff appearance and when it was determined that he plateaued, they found his replacement.

Granted, I still think they waited a year too long but after his 2015 season, he earned the rope they gave him in '16. And by giving him that rope, they got a better long-term prospect in Mahomes than they'd have had in Lynch. So all told, I'd say it worked out.
