Do you think the NBA rules focus too much on driving instead of jumpshots?

I'm just curious. I'm a fundamental shooter fan so I may be biased, but it seems like the NBA, for one reason or another is all about driving into the paint and whatnot. It seems like the jumpshot is a lost art at such a great level of play.

I'd like to see the NBA have the college three-point line. I'd like to see players like Ray Allen (just an example) and teams (the Pacers come to mind) be able to live and die by the jumpshot in the playoffs and have it work.

Anyway, I'd like to see what your guys' opinion is...

It's not the rules.

It's electronic media.

Jump shots don't make the highlights.

Yeah, and they're usually criticized for not being aggressive enough come playoff time.

Look at a team like Duke, how much I loathe them. I want to see an NBA team put up 40 3s in a game and be able to be flat out feared by the opposing team for doing so. Now there's one or two in the mix, and even Phoenix can't do their thing without someone inside to help them out (like Amare, and whatever his name is from this year).

you don't watch much basketball do you? The Heat are not a jump shooting team, they haven't been all year...Wade is very aggressive and very good...Nowvitzki (sp?) probably takes jump shots 75% of the time,

I would like to see basketball become a contact sport, giving the defense and opportunity to actually protect their own basket without goal-tending

I'd like to see too what would happen if they allowed goal tending in basketball... I wouldn't like it as much, if at all, but I'd like to see what the score would end up being. One things for sure. People like Shaq and Duncan's stock would skyrocket! Shawn Bradley would also come back and become league MVP!

I'd like to see what would happen if they actually called games like they should. Let the teams run and get out and got back to 80's showtime basketball. The game would be alot more fun that's for sure.

I think players who are good free throw shooters, like Dwayne Wade and Dirk, really want to draw fouls, and the easiest way to do that is by driving to the hoop. Dwayne can do much more damage by driving than by pulling up for a jumper, even though he has an amazing jump shot.

From what I see, Steve Nash is starting to bring that back a bit. So is LeBron for being a little less selfish than he could be.

I'm a youngin, so I don't remember the heyday of Bird and Magic. But I've watched them on shows on ESPN classic and I do nothing but wish things would go back to the way they were.

I get no greater satisfaction as far as the NBA than watching those old Celtics games from the 80s.

I agree.

I would also like to see the lane widened, and the 3 second rule strictly enforced, which would essentially eliminate the wrestling matches that take place under the basket.
