*.* 2014 General Fitness Thread *.*

Welcome to 2014! Now get your ass in top physical condition!

No one else started it so here it is!

**From the 2013 Thread**

If you want to get back into lifting, or need a new lifting routine, START HERE:

http://startingstrength.wikia.com/wi...inner_Programs

If you have questions about the SS programs, look here:

http://startingstrength.wikia.com/wiki/FAQ

Keep in mind that you're a novice lifter for a longer period of time than you think you are. Novice lifting can last anywhere from a few months to a year or two, depending on how hard you hit the weights and where you started.

Once you've reached the point where you don't make regular progress on the SS program, you are ready to move on to the intermediate stage, which can last you for a good number of years. Find it HERE:

http://madcow.hostzi.com/5x5_Program/Linear_5x5.htm

If you're a very advanced lifter (many, many years of CONSISTENT weight training), then there are lot of programs out there, and which one you pick is simply a matter of preference. If you're really that advanced, you should know what works for you and what doesn't by this point.

Well, I guess what i said could be construed that way but no I understand biking can be a huge cardio challenge.

It would still seems odd to me that someone that could bike 50 miles at a good pace cant run 3 miles at a decent one.

Simply not true. There are many like me. You seem to be underestimating the effect of a heavy lifting program and are way too fixated on running fitting your term of "fit."

Just admit you aren't very accurate here and we can go back to being friends.

I find it really interesting that you bring up any type of endurance fitness in a "Fitness" thread it becomes a huge debate.

This is coming from a soon to be 43 year old who has pretty much steady lifted since he was 24 give or take a year or 2 here and there.

Now I have to bike 50 miles?

Son, how about I do 12, and feel exhausted and pretend I'm fit?

It's called being good at what you train for. You are good at running because you run. You probably wouldn't be great at biking although the running would carryover a bit more than my training. However, if you would have to squat/dead, you would be sunk. I hope you are starting to catch on...being fit isn't just about running.

I tell you what I am fine with being wrong here.

But I will tell you this, if you and I are standing there and and the challenge is to run 2 miles and I smoke your ass, I wont see you as very "fit". Especially after I bench 300lbs right before this happens.

Im just saying.

It's a debate when you equate running to being fit and the sole component to that equation. That's the only discussion we are having and it's continuing because that isn't true.

And when I deadlift over 400 and you can't hit two plates, I'll say the same to you.

The only time you were wrong was when you brought up "your definition" of fit in this thread.

We can obviously agree that "fitness" and "in shape" is in the eye of the beholder.

I know you guys are balls strong, I know you can out lift me in several if not most levels.

I also know I can do the same depending on event.

Hell this inspires me. I love a challenge. We need a CP Olympics!

That would be massively interesting though we would all have about 3 events we were good at.

I also understand none of them were endurance events.

We could add the Marathon which s the longest known Olympic event though.

a challenge that includes bench press followed by a two mile run? planet fitness challenge?

i cant even remember the last time i tried to run a mile, but id love to see how 'fit' you are pushing a prowler with 180lbs for a few 40yd passes.

someone mentioned before but lifting heavy while watching your food intake, throw in a few wind sprints or hiit sessions, and you will be pretty damn 'fit'

In my opinion, I would more apt to consider a marathon runner or cyclist "fit", than a weightlifter. The weightlifter would obviously be stronger, but they could also be in bad cardiovascular shape. Not taking anything away from the weightlifters here.
