Did you start/finish The Book Thief?

Also, managed to get a Boulevard Imperial Stout from the last batch. Going to tackle it tomorrow, or at least that's the plan.

I haven't been reading nearly as much as I should lately.

I've been slowly plowing my way through Rewired: the Post Cyberpunk Anthology and enjoying it immensely. Some really nice short stories in it. Not sure what I'm going to read next. I may grab one of Daniel Pink's books.

The Handmaid's Tale by Margaret Atwood (I'm on a shitty futuristic society binge - just re-read Orwell's 1984 and read Anthem by Ayn Rand).

I love Dystopian literature, and it's one of the great themes in YA literature. A great little YA book to follow up on 1984 is Cory Doctorow's Little Brother. Yes, it's technically Young Adult literature... but it's really very good.

I didn't really care for The Book Thief. I just really didn't care much about what was going on, even with the appealing-to-me-I-mean-look-at-my-username narrator. It would make for a fine book to teach upperclassmen in high school about basic literary analysis.

I say it's good.

In all honesty, I've been forced to read so much bad YA literature due to my work with literacy that I don't even remember what it was like to be a literary snob.

I'm just ****ing with you. I have a strange aesthetic now. I have books that -I- really love because I love them and find them to be challenging. Those tastes tend to be pretty high brow (David Foster Wallace, Pynchon, Rushdie, etc...). Now, though, I have books that I love because I know that my students will love them and be able to read them and be exposed to interesting ideas and be able to "get" them.

The thing is, that the second category is starting to sort of overwhelm the first, and I'm finding myself just enjoying reading YA books for their own sake.

One of the best series I've ever read. It just got the go ahead for a HBO series too. The only problem is that he's only written the first 4. I've been waiting ~4 years now for the next book. It's frustrating, but really, the books are great....
