You would have Newton in tier 3 right above Alex Smith? Newton was just in the super bowl with philly brown and Tedd Ginn as his receivers. Oh, he might of been MVP of the league or something like that.

I didn't rank them per tier. I'm not sure that a single season or two of great play makes someone T1 or T2. Newton will get there quick though if he keeps it up.

I've said this before, and will likely say it again.

That Texan O-Line was not good, but David Carr was responsible for more of the sacks that he took than his line was.

That guy had a stiffer neck than William Bartee.

He had absolutely no ability to make progressions or reads.

His final season in Houston he was sacked nearly 50 times.
The following season, the Texans gave up fewer than 25 sacks, and that was with Jordan Black as their only "upgrade".

Jordan Black was an upgrade. That says a lot. Man was he awful. He was an addition by subtraction when he left KC.

I feel like, in order to be tier 1, you can't have had a losing season (at least recently). True tier 1 QBs bring their teams to the playoffs year in and year out without fail.

I don't know, I feel like Brees always elevates the wrs and other skill guys around him.

His defense has been historically bad for a while though

It took 5 years for folks to finally give up on the fantasy of Jay Cutler. Stafford's cannon and Eli's rings give them both even more latitude.

But I agree; I'd take Smith over Stafford and Eli in a heartbeat. I'd take him ahead of Flacco as well.
