Chiefs sign Emmitt Thomas as Defensive Backs coach
Emmitt Thomas (Defensive Backs): A veteran of 42 NFL seasons as a player and a coach, Thomas joins the Chiefs coaching staff after an eight-year coaching stint with Atlanta (2002-09), where he most recently served as assistant head coach/secondary. He also served as the Falcons interim head coach for the final three games of the 2007 season. Thomas served as an NFL defensive coordinator for seven seasons, working in that role for Minnesota (2000-01), Green Bay (’99) and Philadelphia (’95-98). He also served as an NFL assistant with Washington (’86-94) and St. Louis (’81-85), earning a pair of Super Bowl rings with the Redskins. He began his coaching career at Central Missouri State (’79-80).
Inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2008 and the Chiefs Hall of Fame in ‘86, Thomas played cornerback for 13 seasons with Kansas City (’66-78). He is the Chiefs all-time leader with 58 interceptions and 938 INT return yards. In 181 regular season games, he also accumulated five INT return TDs and seven fumble recoveries. He was named to the Pro Bowl or the AFL All-Star Game on five occasions and was a first-team All-Pro selection in ‘74 when he led the NFL with 12 INTs. He won two AFL titles with the Chiefs and was a member of the club’s Super Bowl I squad, as well as the club’s ‘69 team that claimed a victory in Super Bowl IV. The Angleton, Texas native joined the Chiefs as an undrafted free agent from Bishop College. Link: http://www.kcchiefs.com/news/2010/02...th_and_thomas/ |

It's pretty simple. The Pats had to play a lot of zone 'cause they had crap talent at corner most of the time aside from Law, who was the only one they COULD trust in man. I don't think it's because Crennel is a fan of zone vs. man.

Can you imagine how amped the Chiefs should be for rivalry weekend now that Thomas and Smith are Chiefs again.
The Raiders are dead men walking.

THE RETURN OF A HALL OF FAMER
February 1st – 1:49 PM Pro Football Hall of Fame CB Emmitt Thomas walked into the offices at One Arrowhead Drive this morning as “a Chief” for the first time in 32 years. It’s been that long (1978) since Thomas last wore Red and Gold. Since his NFL playing days, Thomas has carved out quite a professional coaching resume as well. Today, his NFL path officially came full circle when Chiefs head coach Todd Haley announced the arrival of Thomas as Kansas City’s new defensive backs coach. “This is a big day for the Kansas City Chiefs,” Haley said. “Coach Thomas is really somebody that I’ve always looked up to and had a great amount of respect for,” Haley continued. “One I got into the coaching side of the NFL, you’d heard about Coach Thomas. He’s a a guy who has won a Super Bowl here playing, coached for two more rings with the Washington Redskins, has been playing or coaching in the NFL for 42 years and is in the Hall of Fame.“ For Thomas, the return to Kansas City was an opportunity that he always hoped would present itself. “It’s a wonderful feeling,” Thomas said. “Through all the Super Bowls, hirings and firings, I’ve always anticipated and wished that I would get an opportunity to finish up my career over here in Kansas City. “I want to say thanks to the Hunt Family, coach Todd Haley, Scott Pioli and coach Crennel for having me,” Thomas continued. “I’m looking forward to a great working situation.“ A full transcript to today’s press conference with Haley/Thomas/Weis/Crennel will be posted shortly on kcchiefs.com, along with archived video coverage of today’s event. I'll also say this was a shrewd move by Pioli/Haley to appease the fan base.

the percent of people who actually attention, in the off season, i'm guessing is low...we represent a minuscule amount of the fan base...not that i even care enough to even be arguing the point like i am right now...
