Not true. That's what he gets for having a kid demand a school based on prestige. There are a **** ton of respectable schools out there that would give his kid a scholarship, but princess has to have Duke, and daddy is going to fit the bill. While my post is a bit condescending, he's a good dad for doing it. As long as he has the money.

I'm not sure what duke is ranked but I'm sure it's top 20 and the cost isn't a significant jump from a 3rd tier like washburn.

If you just want to come back to Kansas City and set up shop as a solo practitioner or become a prosecutor somewhere, then Duke would be a vanity choice and UMKC would be just as good (in fact, probably better due to the more practical focus on Missouri law). But if you have aspirations to work at a top tier law firm on Wall Street or in DC or some other major city, it helps a lot (i.e. it's almost essential) to go to a big name law school.

That's actually a really good point. I think those positions can be attained, but would the time involved to get them be worth the loss of income by getting them straight out of school. This is over a quarter million dollar education. Some of those guys make 10 times that in bonus alone.
