I think Smith is an average QB; I don't think it's a huge mountain to climb for Murray to climb.
however, as others have alluded to, when/if Murray puts it together, he'll likely be gone from KC.

As of right now? No, I would take Geno over Murray. If Murray gets a full season you'd get a better comparison.

Dude, you said you like the pick. You thought it was good value. I also know you think highly of the Ron Wolf strategy of selecting QBs in the draft.

The Green Bay Packers do this stuff all the time as well, and most of their late rounders don't ever amount to much, either. But the point is that they keep drafting QBs because you have no idea what's going to happen with one of them or what might happen to your starter.

So what's the matter with celebrating this pick as simply a good pick? And outside of that, what's the matter with celebrating this pick as a good pick at a position that NEVER gets drafted by this team?

****, wouldn't it be great if the Chiefs drafted 2 or 3 QBs every five or so years like the Packers do? That'd at least represent a change in this franchise's philosophy when it comes to the position.

It's a small step. A baby step. But God, wouldn't that be SOMEWHAT refreshing to see them do that?

No, I don't.

Even if we agree that Smith is an average passer (I think he's above average in some areas and below average in others), Smith has the ability to improvise. To make things happen when the play breaks down, especially with his feet.

Aaron Murray doesn't have those things. He's not a scrambler, he doesn't improvise well, and more often than not when the pocket collapses, so does he.

Murray, for me, is the definition of average. He's a prototypical game manager that does everything just good enough to be a backup QB.

I do like the pick. I think that Murray could be a much cheaper and better #2 than Chase Daniel.

But ultimately, I'm not gonna get real excited until I see this team take a guy that has legit #1 starter upside and with Murray, I just don't see it.

Otherwise, I agree with you for the most part. I'm mostly just responding to the "Aaron Murray was the best prospect in the draft" silliness.

It's quite a bit different because Murray is a better player. Stanzi was trash. I realize that not everyone will agree with that last comment, and that's OK.

I don't think Murray is THAT much better but that's just me.

A lot of people around here got hot and bothered about Kirk Cousins too and he isn't AT ALL better than Ricky Stanzi.

People get excited about some weird shit.

Aaron Murray could really be the next Tom Brady. While Murray is nothing special physically he just has the feel of someone who has 'it'. Of course drafting quarterbacks is always a lot shot, at least this one has a good feel to it. The price was right.

I would love it if Bray and Murray were good enough to get Daniel kicked to the curb.

Speaking of Bray, seems like Murray is Bray's polar opposite. One with great talent but immature and a bit stupid. The other with moderate talent but a real student of the game and smart.

we'll see

You think too much of someone who never made it as even a backup.

It has a lot more to do with what I think about Cousins than what I think about Stanzi.

I don't really care too much one way or another about 2nd and 3rd string QBs.

Cousins showed to be pretty damn competent in actual NFL games. Stanzi showed to be an embarrassment with #2's in preseason. To say they are equal is just stupid.

Cousins showed he can manage a game in a backup situation. Like I said, I don't really give a crap one way or another about backup QBs.

People got all crazy about trading for the guy as a starter, which he'll likely never be.

Meh.

I wanted the Chiefs to draft him, but as soon as he went to the Redskins that was it. Trading for him would have been ignorant.

Pretty much the same criticisms on this site of Murray could easily be said about Manning with his time at Tennessee.

Let's don't get distorted with the potential factor.

I bet Murray's #'s were at least of the equivalent as to Manning's in college.
