Mavericks Post Week 3 thoughts

Oh NOOOZ ANOTHER THREAD......

Yeah, I get it. But I have some specific points that I want to make. Some gloating, some observations that even I didn't know, some props, and some point and laugh moments.

Since I got here back in February, once the Alex Smith trade was made known, I have stated a couple of things that were one, laughed at, and two got me torched.

The thing that I am most proud of, is how I PREDICTED correctly how good this Chiefs defense was going to be. Every time I mentioned how much of a difference that Bob Sutton and his style of defense was going to make to this team I was scorned. When I contradicted Clay about how good Sean Smith was going to be in this type of scheme, I was ridiculed because PFF told you that he sucked. Poe receives a crap ton of love on this forum NOW. He didn't then. He was another bust of a pick according to some on here. Not matching the draft slot with the production. The unsung hero of this defense, is Mike DeVito. He is constantly keeping linemen off of Hali, the same can be said on the other side for Tyson Jackson, who not only has been keeping Houston free to be the best defender in football so far in the season, but he has also been very staunch against the run. Eric Berry has looked much better too. One thing I have heard almost exclusively, is how Berry cant cover. Yet he was part of a defense that pretty much shut out Jason Witten, a premiere tight end in the league.

So far, the Chiefs defense, is giving up just over 11 points per game.

Elite? You bet your ass. The Chiefs defense is filthy right now. Every bit as dominant as the Seahawks defense right now. Their front 7 to me is the best in the league. The only real concern I have about the Chiefs is at free safety. Kendrick Lewis, is horrid in coverage, and as a tackler. The angle he took on Michael Vick on his 61 yard run last night, was about the worst angle I have ever seen. A competent safety keeps that to a 15 yard run.

The offense, is a work in progress. Despite the short week, the missing of the teams top 3 tight ends in Fasano, Kelce, and Moeaki, and the lack of a slot/ 3rd down receiver, the offense showed just enough to utilize the strength of the team. The defense, and that beautiful foot off Dustin Colquitt.

Combine that with mistake free football from the offense, and very clutch play in the 4th quarter by Alex Smith, and adjustment in play calling by Andy Reid switching away from the shot gun on the long drive and utilizing Anthony Sherman in front of Jamaal Charles, not to mention Jamaal Charles running like a pure mack truck earning hard yards, and finishing runs like Walter Payton, and all of a sudden, an offensive line that was much maligned for most of the game, a non existent running game and questionable at best play calling, its almost a tease as to what the Chiefs offense can be.

Defintely, there were stretches, hell, from the first quarter until the 4th, the offense was atrocious. Bad throws, bad blocks, bad runs, clearly and I don't know how many people saw it, but when Andy tore into Charles for not converting that 3rd and 1, he went berserk, and after that Jamaal Charles was a completely different animal.

I would be remised if I didn't mention the clear play making ability of Donnie Avery. He was the Chiefs offense last night. Forget the best play of the night, the absolute strike that Alex Smith and Avery completed to overcome a bone headed play by McCluster and the egregious call to even have him back there at all with the way Demps had been returning kicks the entire night, but the momentum was purely in the Eagles favor at that point. No, look past that, Donnie Avery several times last night took 3rd and long short check down crossing routes, made guys miss, and picked up first downs.

The offense is NOT perfect obviously. Several aspects have to be cleaned up. The play calling, the amount of passes called in the first half, 29 is too lopsided. The oline did not play well for long stretches. Fisher was routinely abused, Albert didn't play that well either, and some of his penalties were very ill timed. Alex Smith has to be a little more risky, and has to learn to trust his guys. But there is room for growth. It's not like the ceiling has been met. The offense is on its floor. But, I believe that the arrow is pointed up.

I am happy for all of you Chiefs fans. I know that some here only see them as regular season warriors. But the truth is, teams that play really good defense, don't turn the ball over, and can run the ball, are winning now days in the playoffs. The Chiefs will not be someone that anyone will like playing come playoff times.

Thoughts? Hate? Dislike? LOATHE?

I think most of us knew our defense had potential. Not sure how many were actually bashing you.

You know, that's a fair point. Although, an outsider might have perspective that emotionally invested fans don't really consider?

No?

Here's a post game thought about this horrid game last night: Philly absolutely handed the game on a platter to KC. It was like Vick and the boy's wanted the walrus to feel at home even though he looked like the giant cherry koolaid oh-yah guy.

I quit reading after you congratulated yourself for out-guessing Goatcheese. Claythan has proven himself to be so inept at evaluating NFL talent and schemes that I wouldn't wear your claim as a badge of honor. I'm pretty sure that my teenage daughters could get more right than him. Look, this is a message board. No one cares about your "take". At least Goatboy can make really cool videos and stuff. Your self-appointment as an expert prognosticator is tedious and tired. Please just stop.

Teams that win the turnover battle, tend to usually win games.........

Or did you miss that part when the Broncos were destroying the Giants thanks to turnovers?

Do you even bother to read what you type and think it out before hitting submit?

Let's see. We force turnovers and we win games.

OMG! WE'RE HORRIBLE!
