It is becoming obvious that the coaching staff is holding back the development of great talent.
If Gun was to step down as head coach, who are the possibilities for HC Would Gun go back to defensive C. I think that with his eye for talent, that he would be a great replacement for Peterson????????????????????????? Am I crazy? |

Dom Capers for HC. I wanted him last year, but the Chiefs decided to go cheap.

If he stepped down right now it'd be Shaw. Not much better, but I'd take anything right now that might ensure us of a completely new coaching staff next year. Unfortunately, we'll probably just promote another unqualifyed, 1950's style coach.

Maybe the sonofab!tch will quit for real this week.
I've gotta get off the board for now. I hate feeling and being this negative. Maybe tomorrow I'll be able to see positives out of this latest life sucking abortion. For now, though, harsh reality is kicking the shit out of me. Later. |

My candidates would be Capers or Art Shell as HC with Capers doubling as DC. My OC would be Deberg, Infante, or maybe Marchibroda.
Another HC/OC posibility might be the HC at Stanford. The Cardinal hasn't had a great record but I think his O would be ideally suited to our talent. |

I've seen what Capers can't do watching him here at Carolina. Art Shell is not HC coach material.
I would rather see us get Bill Cowher back here. At least we would have a decent HC who would get a REAL coaching staff. mmaddog ************ ------------------ "When you're not the lead dog in the pack, the view is always the same" |

Thanks Mark, I'd forgotten about Cowher. He'd also be an excellent choice.
Didn't Capers have some good years at Car before his team got old on him? I do know I love what he's done for the D at Jax (today notwhithstanding) Art Shell has been a HC. Now whether the Raiders failure was due to him or Al Davis is another question. |

I like the mention of the Stanford guy, how about Neuheisal at Washington, how about Kubiak from Denver. For god sakes, try something new, not another retread. Pam, I can't see a demoted coach doing any good for the team. And as for him replacing Carl, that would be one of those, anybody can replace Carl type moves, and that just isn't true. At best, move him into the player personnel, scouting, whatever. I do feel, though, he will remain in the NFL as a DC, which is more than any of HIS coordinators should be.

If Cunningham quits this year, then you are left with an underling until the beginning of next season. Frankly the thought of any of the stooges or their assistants in the pilot's seat scares the heck out of me.

Red - I don't think Kubiak would go to a rival.... But I was with you on that thought 2 years ago.

Yea Wolf, I hear he is waiting for the Houston job, course, I hear that applies to Capers as well. An offensive minded college coach would be ok though. Or defensive, if we can come up with a good OC. You are also right about Gun getting gone, probably Shaw, which would be the lesser of the evils, but then we would give him a 2 or 3 year contract, and it would be the same thing over.

Sorry, guys...Gunther isn't going anywhere...And I must admit, Pam, I'm surprised you are leading this charge.

I am suprised myself. I was thrilled when he was named HC, he was awesome as DC. But last season and so far this season has been disappointing. The only reason we (or I) was thrilled at 9-7 was because of the horrible 8-8 the year before. If we had not had that year, people might be looking closer at what is happening.
