Help building my first gaming rig

The PC vs Console thread really got me going (although, I've been wanting to do this for some time) I want to build a nice gaming rig that I can use to play some PC exclusives on as well as not having to worry about it being slow as hell compared to my POS laptop.

What I want -

1. Must be able to run graphics at med/high settings. (770 card?)
2. I'd like to have good storage for movies/music (I don't know the advantages/differences of an SSD/HDD.
3. I'd like to have an HDMI port so I can move it into my living room on the big screen.
4. I do need a monitor. Undecided whether or not I want to run a dual/tri monitor setup yet.
5. I still burn CD's and Dvds. Will need a drive that supports both.
6. 8 GB of Ram at least with options to upgrade to 16gb in the future.

To sum It up I want a Rig that can do it all with little to no issues speed wise. I have a budget of around $1000, which is pretty flexible.

I also like pretty things. So I'm not afraid to spend a little more on a nicer case. Am a big fan of the Cooler Master Stryker case, I love the cases with the windows in the side with LEDS.

If anybody would like to help me I would greatly appreciate it. I just want to be apart of the PC master race.

EDIT:

This is build I am going with, unless I find good deals on better components.

I wouldn't say it NEEDS 30A. That's the EVGA recommendation.

I generally wouldn't put a modern graphics card on a rail with less than 24A though.

And I just bought a 25A MAX PS.

Damnit.

Well, I am going to mess with the BIOS and pray. This PS might end up in my brother's computer.

Thanks for the help. I should have asked you guys before wasting a little money.

Ok nvm. I looked it up.

Why do we think the PSU is not powerful enough?

That PSU can easily run TWO of those graphic cards. It is a high quality, correctly rated, plenty powerful modular modern PSU.

Maybe the 760 needs 30 amp total. 2 20-25 amp power sources overkill.

I didn't find anything on the BIOS to adjust. I did turn off the "monitor shutdown" (in windows) feature since it probably runs through the Motherboard instead of the card.

Do I need to disable the Intel HD graphics?

I am not saying your PSU is not responsible for your freeze ups, but its not because it is under powered for your GPU.

They are 100% perfectly compatible and fine in that regard. Now.. you could have a faulty PSU that works but has something wrong.

My bet is its heat related. do you monitor your temps? Download EVGA precision X and use it to monitor your GPU temps, and CPU-Z for the CPU, let me know what your idle and load settings are.

What mobo/CPU btw?

Okay, I am feeling better.

I was hoping that a nice PS from EVGA would get the job done. It's a beast.

Working on the download.

Mobo is Dell OEM for Inspirion 660 and processor is I5 3340.

When I hold my hand up to computer it feels cool. (Very scientific )

Ok looking again. Bro you have no ****ing airflow in your case! Its tiny, and you have a high powered GPU and PSU in there, along with the other stuff.

This solidifies my thought that it is heat related.

Even when idle?

I will just leave the side of the case off.

I got home from work and it was froze a couple of times. My wife is absent minded and leaves in on after studying.

While gaming it runs pretty cool. Lately it's just Black Ops II Zombies and STALKER, so it's not getting pushed hard.

It never freezes when in use.

It could be as simple as my 2 year old son sneaking down and going crazy on the keyboard.

Thanks for the help, guys. I am running some trial and error to figure this out.

Ok if its idle, and not at load, mnay not be heat related then.

Doubt its the PSU unless the PSU itself is faulty. If its happening at idle , the GPU isnt even drawing power (boost 2.0 cards underclock and are basically off when the PC idles)

Have you tried running virus scans with avast?
