That would have sealed this movie as the greatest Action/Super Hero movie for me ever. Alas, Disney will make beaucoup bucks on Iron Man 3, so that would never happen. Maybe in Avengers 2, one of our Mains will die.

Youre saying that it takes a major character's death to put it over the top?

You mustve killed an entire case of Kleenex during X-3 then, eh? Cyclops dead in the first 20 minutes, Xavier history at halfway point, and Wolverine offs Jean in the end.

I dont know if you even read the comics or not. Im guessing not. The simple idea that one of the Avengers should die to put the movie over the top is just incomprehensible to me. I dont know how that could EVER be considered a good idea.

The way I see it, if the film had gone down like you wanted, if Stark died in the end, the outrage over that would be immeasurable. You think it would be a good idea for the first film about this legendary group from the comics to have one of its major characters to die on their first actual teamup?

Heh. Joss Whedon would be crucified for that horseshit.

Everything in the movie leading up to that would instantly be undone. I liken it to the ending of Mass Effect. Completely killer series, right up to that last ten minutes which completely destroys everything.

Im just saying, if you actually read the comics, then the expectation for an Avenger to die in a theatrical movie is pretty far out of left field. Especially so in the first one where they initially form the group.

Helluva team. You all get together, and already one of you is dead. Maybe this Avengers thing wasnt such a great idea. Heh.

The only time any of them started kicking off was in that shitty Civil War storyline where a clone of Thor (still can't believe they actually went that route.....) kills Giant Man, and of course it ends with the death of Captain America.

It looks like theyre going for the Infinity Gauntlet story arc though, which is going to be kick-ass. I think that not just because its Thanos, but the manner in which they introduced him, with that alien dude saying that "To challenge the humans is to court death.

In the Infinity Gauntlet story, Thanos was obsessed, and in love with death. Hearing that line delivered and then seeing the smile from Thanos seals the deal.

We wont be seeing any mains die anytime soon, thankfully so. Maybe Nolan will throw us a swerve and off Batman for you. Never know. Last movie he is doing, same for Bale and the rest, and Bane did break him in half in the comics.


As far as the idea of Iron Man getting stranded in Thanos' realm...I suppose it could be okay, but Id rather see him against some of his classic enemies. I dont know what the fecking holdup is with getting The Mandarin introduced. Thats crazy. Going into the third film in the franchise and still no Mandarin. Probably Crimson Dynamo or Titanium Man next, which might be kind of a drag. We've already had two movies where the main villain has some form of Starktech style armor. A third in a row would be getting dangerously close to stale.

Also consider that some of the best parts of the Iron Man films are Tony's banter with Pepper and Rhodes. If he's basicly pulling the Iron Man version of Castaway, there's not going to be much opportunity in there for Stark's witty banter and one-liners.

Lastly, it goes back to the movie being about them first forming the Avengers. You cant have some catastrophic fail like the death of one of them, or Stark getting stranded in another universe. It had to end the way it did, with the good guys all kicking ass (and surviving), Loki gets dragged back to Asgard in chains, casting aside the cheap death of the villain in favor of what happens in the books, and the forming of the team considered a resounding success.

The next Iron Man is being filmed extensively in China.. so I can't imagine they won't introduce the Mandarin. Although it appears a major part of the plot will be based on Extremis... so who knows.

I may actually get a chance to go on set for Iron Man 3! My buddy is pretty sure he'll be working on it. (He is wrapping up Zero Dark Thirty right now... after doing WWZ and Abraham Lincoln:Vampire Hunter) He is going try to get me some "consultant" work so I am legit while there. fingers crossed

I've been waiting for this story to be a movie since I was 12 years old. It gives me chills to the core. it just seems like it's being a little rushed. It's going to take a hell of a lot more than just the Avengers to take on Thanos if he does indeed get his hands on the gems.
supposedly the marvel universe is about to get real Cosmic real fast. So we'll see how it goes, but can they really move forward without the Silver Surfer or Warlock or Galactus. We're gonna be missing some huge pieces I imagine.
