Depends on who is sitting there as to whether they pick or trade down for more picks. I don't believe QB is on the table there and I'm good with that, believe they would take Fitzpatrick if there... but, I wouldn't be schocked to see them trade back.

Why do you think that they won't go quarterback? 2 year deal to Keenum screams quarterback at 5 to me.

I was in Denver over the weekend for a girls volleyball tournament... heard a lot of sports radio and I've read some things. While it's mixed obviously and nobody knows, this is what made sense to me.

I do think Elway will keep Lynch around another year, hoping something clicks. I believe Elway is convinced they can chase and compete while rebuilding in spots. And, going QB at 5 doesn't help chasing and competing right now. Keenum isn't terrible, but they have to fix that OL and they need to bolster the RB spot.

They have 11 picks right now, if the right offer is made, they can trade back and collect a few more. I truly believe that whether they are right or wrong, they see this as an opportunity to get younger while reloading. Part of what I like about the mentality is the belief that they can always compete and win "that next year" no matter what happened the year before.

They have a lot of fixing to do, but at QB... that's the one position they've kicked themselves in the balls over a more than any other in recent years. They'll take a QB in this draft, just not at 5.

I'll just be surprised if they stay at 5 and draft a QB.

No way they draft one at 5. They should -- if the right guy is there -- but they'll treat the career backup with a fluke contract year performance as some kind of answer and draft a "win now" player.

Seriously, all smack aside, Elway just reeks of a guy who's almost like an armchair GM, making the same types of moves as a fan would in Madden. He doesn't wanna watch another year of 67-rated QB play, so instead of drafting a guy who with 90+ rating upside, he'll sign the guy who's a solid 80. He'll never take 'em anywhere, but at least he's not THAT bad.

To be fair, Cousins is merely an 85 type of guy, and wouldn't take them all that much further. A decent passer, definitely, just screams of being "a guy" - not THE guy.

Honestly, I don't think there were any real options that align with the $ being spent in FA and I just don't like the options in the draft.

QB is one of the hardest positions to solidify. Do your best to find one that one bite your team in the ass and build up around him as best you can.

So the strategy that has netted the Chiefs nothing for 50 years?

Maybe.. depends on how things play out. It's not like KC was the only team trying to be competitive and find a QB. Hell, they found one with Green and screwed it up with a lack of focus on DEF.

Only way teams win consistently is find that franchise guy and build through the draft... there's been maybe 4 teams that have that balance over the last 30 years. Everyone else is just doing whatever they can to keep up.

If a QB is there at 5 that Elway likes, I bet he takes one - at least he should. Keenum is a stop gap QB who will stabilize the position until a legit franchise QB can take over. Makes perfect sense to go with Keenum IF you plan on drafting a QB in the next year or two. The plan is to stabilize the QB position and win as much as they can now with Keenum, and draft a QBOTF. He has a chance this year at # 5, and could easily be in the top 10 again next season.

I think they've drafted a QB in every draft... they'll take one in this draft, I just don't believe they do it at 5.
