Teicher:Chiefs sign two draft picks at start of rookie camp

Chiefs sign two draft picks at start of rookie camp
By ADAM TEICHER
The Kansas City Star
The Chiefs opened a three-day rookie camp today by signing two draft picks, center Eric Kush and linebacker Mike Catapano. Kush, from California University of Pennsylvania, was a sixth-round pick while Capapano, from Princeton, was a seventh-round selection.

Six of their eight draft picks remained unsigned, including tackle Eric Fisher, the first overall pick.

In addition to their eight draft picks and 13 undrafted rookies, the Chiefs were expecting 44 other players to participate in rookie camp. Eight are first-year players under contract to the Chiefs: wide receivers Junior Hemingway and Tyler Shoemaker, tight end Kevin Brock, offensive linemen Steven Baker, Tommie Draheim, Dustin Waldron and Lucas Patterson and linebacker Chad Kilgore.

The others are players invited to camp without a contract on a trial basis. Among the names that are locally familiar: kickers Anthony Cantele of Kansas State, and Trey Barrow of Missouri and quarterback Dayne Crist and linebacker Toben Opurnum of Kansas.

The other 32 tryout players: quarterback Alex Gillett (Eastern Michigan), running backs Jordan Roberts (Charleston), Kaderius Lacey (Alabama A&M) and Terry Grant (Alabama), wide receivers Kendal Thompkins (Miami), Darryl Stonum (Baylor), Robby Toma (Notre Dame) and Drew Terrell (Stanford), tight end Jordan Thompson (Ohio), offensive linemen Will Matte (Indiana), Shea Allard (Delaware) and Adrian Haughton (Iowa State), defensive linemen Darius Smith (Miami), Miguel Chavis (Clemson), Risean Broussard (Hinds Junior College), Jonathan Mathis (Texas A&M) and Drew Vanderlin (Michigan Tech), linebackers E.J. Epperson (Mississippi), T.J. Fatinikun (Toledo), J.C. Percy (Boise State), Feti Unga (Oregon State), Brandon Sharpe (Syracuse) and Tenarius Wright (Arkansas), defensive backs C.J. Jones (Texas A&M), Ashante Williams (Illinois), Justin Glenn (Washington), Kamaal McIlwain (Newberry), James Rogers (Michigan), Durrell Givens (Iowa State), Greg Castillo (Iowa) and Tony Foster (Duke) and long snapper Adam Nelson (Villanova).
