Heh, seriously, I don't know why it's not capturing my attention, but it's not. Great story, but there's something about the writing that I dislike.

I'm reading "The Negro President: Thomas Jefferson and the Slave Power"
It kind of gives you a view of some of our founding fathers that you didn't learn about in high school. |

I hear you. I was expecting a Jon Krakauer meets Buddha or something. But it just seems like it's nothing more than a lot of useless babbling. He takes 100 pages just to tell the reader he's crossing a river or something. Unless your story is very captivating, I've got better things to do.

I'm reading Brave Companians by David McCullough. It's a series of essays about lesser know historical events or people, or maybe just a story about a famous person you may not know. For instance, one is about the building of a railroad across Panama before the Panama Canal was built. Another deals with Teddy Roosevelt's three years as a North Dakota rancher. It's good stuff.

I'm sure your mainstream media tells you to say things like that.
The only thing I hear coming from your mouth is "baaa aaa".

Reading a trilogy about Troy by David Gemmell. "Lord of the Silver Bow", "Thunder Shield" and "Death of Kings". Well done.

The Brewmaster's Table by Garrett Oliver (Brewmaster of Brooklyn Brewery). Its a deep look at how to effectively pair beer with food & why beer is a better pair with food than wine is for nearly every conceivable dish. It also goes deeply into the history of the various beer styles.
Its a great book for learning about beer and it will improve your culinary life dramatically. |

I'm about to start the 7th novel, Fall With Honor. I've really enjoyed the series. There's one more after this one.

I just finished reading The Name of the Wind by Patrick Rothfuss.
There were some very minor problems with it, like some lighthanded editing and a main character with few flaws, but I really enjoyed it. I will say it is only the start of a trilogy, so the ending isn't really an ending. I pictured Oblivion as I was reading it. |
