I would very much like to hear one of our resident NFL experts comment on the statements below ... either to confirm or dispute ... or, perhaps, to clarify ...
As I understand it, the T2 was, essentially, designed as a response to the WCO. The idea was to allow the short passing game (which you couldn't stop, anyhow), but keep the big play in front of you, and wait for an offensive mistake to occur. It worked for awhile, but it didn't take long for offensive coordinators to re-adjust while, simultaneously, overall quarterback play seemed to improve. One has to wonder, though, why teams continued to stay with the scheme while enemy offenses evolved. It's almost as though, in a way, the T2 could get partial credit for the NFL's migration into a more passing-oriented league. There were rule changes that accelerated the change, but the T2 was, perhaps, a contributing factor. FAX |

The thing I think about with a Lovie Smith defense is the Tebow win in Denver. When he had everyone play back and let Tebow throw 10 yard passes all the way down the field to win the game.
Then the next week, the Chiefs play them and cover all the WR's up in their face to make him throw in a tight window and he couldn't do it. Chiefs win. I've thrown enough stuff against the wall through the years watching our DB's play 15 yards away from the WR's (mostly before RAC) and play this bend don't break BS. I hate it and don't want any part of it!

Would love Lovie Smith, but I doubt he'd be here for that long.
He'd be a Jack Del Rio hire. Good for us for a few years, but you know he'll get another HC chance in the near future and we'd have to replace him. |

Like already stated, you have to put good position guys in there too, who are of the same philosophy so you just continue to promote from within and the philosophy stays.
Like in Pitt, when Lebeau leaves, Butler is cut from the same cloth. |

#Eagles on Rick Burkholder: "He's under contract. We're honoring the contract but allowing him to seek an opportunity with Andy Reid in KC." Burkholder is the Eagles top athletic trainer, btw.
