Im trying really, really hard not to be jealous about Roy's success at UNC. He lost almost the entire team from last years national championship and they're ranked, while KU is falling flat.
It's frustrating. Im hoping Self can turn this around.

I thought that in a few years Roy's run might start smelling a lot better around here.

Being a long time KU/Roy fan this is my conclusion of why KU sucks now.
1. Obviously they are young. young players coming out of hs know nothing about the game of bball until they get about a season under their belt. 2. KU has been spoiled for the last 5 seasons with great playmakers. Then there was a dark period of talent from 99-00 then before that was another 5 year period where KU was great. Another words KU isnt used to this mediocrity. KU has never had this many young people in recent history. 3. The high low offense only works in hs when big men arent as big. In high school it is common to guard a 6-4 ,6-5 big man. In college the smallest players that play in the paint are 6-8, and now swing men are getting bigger to fit that Carmelo/Lebron profile. If everyone sags down low in the middle you cant run this offense effectively. 4. Roy Williams made the KU secondary break into a legendary offense. This was a run and gun offense and needed track stars to run it. When I say this I'm saying that I honestly believe that Kirk Hinrich is one of the greatest guards I have ever seen. If you are constantly running, with good conditioning you can catch teams out of their defensive stance = points. Self's Jayhawks 76pts a game Roy's Boys - 88 points a game
