Is the overall talent level of the NFL in a "down" year?

And WTF does that mean?

Somebody showed me the podcast from Monday's PTI show. After Wilbon and Bob Ryan discussed the Donks loss, they moved to talking about the Chiefs as the last undefeated team in the 2nd segment. The question was "Are the Chiefs possibly the best team in the NFL?"

Bob Ryan did the usual, "No, who have they played, they seem to only squeak by bad teams instead of asserting dominance yadda yadda." He continued on, though, and said, "What this shows with the Chiefs being the NFL's last remaining unbeaten is that the overall talent level is down this year. There is a lack of truly dominant teams."

They continued the rest of the discussion without qualifying what that meant. Wilbon and Ryan both gave credit to Andy Reid and the KC D and oddly enough Alex Smith for telling the Niners to go **** themselves and continuing to win on a new team. So it wasn't all negative shit about the Chiefs.

My question is do you have any idea what Ryan possibly meant by this, and do you agree with it if you do?

He actually makes the opposite argument without stating it.

The margin of victory by the chiefs and that the other top teams have lost 1 or more proves that competition is strong and we're talking about a season where teams are putting up historic numbers on offense and some on defense. The league doesn't have a shortage of talent, even just by looking around the league and some of the rosters.

Diminishing O-Lines are leading to the low level of play.

I'm pretty sure there's no less talent, I'd say the talent might be more spread out, but less is just dumb. Now, if the meant to say that the talent has moved to some teams that are father "down" the market size, that might be a question worth asking but it's not what they're trying to say.

Oh, and they can all **** the hell off!

Exactly- go look back at the early 90's rosters of San Francisco or Dallas. It's ridiculous the amount of top quality they had on just one team.
