Do you have stores that sell second run appliances? It could conceivably be cheaper to get a used dryer than to have a service call to fix the one you have.

Most appliance repair can be done by someone handy with tools. I've repaired the washer, dishwasher, oven, refirgerator (for freon stuff you'd need to call a service man), to name a few. The key is to figure out what is broken, and to find a replacement part. There are on-line trouble shooting guides. Parts you can get from a Sears parts destributor in your area or an on-line parts supplier.
