HBO greenlights A Game of Thrones pilot!

HBO has given the production order.

They will be filming the pilot episode of A GAME OF THRONES.

It's just the pilot so far. They'll need to see that before they decide whether to proceed with a full season's episodes. So let's all hope the pilot will kick serious ass.

It should. David Benioff and Dan Weiss did a terrific job with the script. And yes, all of you can relax, it's very faithful. Dan and David will be the executive producers for the pilot and (we hope) the eventual series.

More details when I have 'em. The news is very fresh. HBO just issued their own press release, which should be up on their website soon, if it's not there already.

Winter is coming to HBO. Hot damn.

As I've mentioned before, no major character has ever permanently died during his or her POV chapter. Catelyn was killed at the end of the Red Wedding, but was later resurrected. I am about 99.9% sure that Jon will survive, in one way or another. Too much invested in the character to kill him.

Doesn't Ned's death occur during an Arya POV chapter? That's what I recall, with Yoren pulling her away at the end...

Question: I just got done re-watching season 1 on HBO. Why does Maester Pycelle act like he is broken down and soft in the head in front of the whore in his room and everyone else then, when alone, he straightens up and cracks his back and appears just fine?

He wants everyone to think he's addled and harmless and not a player in the Game of Thrones. That's also something they threw into the series that I don't really remember being a part of the books. He actually is a doddering old fool in the books, as far as I recall.

I thought he definitely came off as a pretty important piece for the Lannisters. Cesei, being the stupid **** that she is, never saw it that way, so too bad for him. I do think he was a Tywin loyalist to the core and was doing what had to be done to benefit the lion, though.

One more link to an essay that I found extremely interesting. It deals with the Citadel. It was written before book 5 came out, but since Book 5 did not have any Citadel information in it (a disappointment for sure after reading this essay), it is still up to date.

The key info is that the Sphinx character at the Citadel is really Sarella Sand (one of the viper princesses from Dorne) in disguise.

Also, the man who killed Pate in the book 4 prologue, then took his form in the epilogue, and now has a key to every room in the Citadel, is really Jaquen H'Ghar the Faceless Man who sent Arya to Bravos. What is he up to?

Also interesting that Marwyn heads off to go see Dany, but then he never shows up in Book 5, so what happened to him? I wonder if Marwyn is also the same person as the red priest that ends up with Victarion when he fishes him out of the ocean. I don;t think their descriptions are the same, but red priests can glamor. Not sure why else he wouldn;t have shown up in Book 5, plus in the passage quoted in the essay, he clearly saw the future in the flames in that he knew Samwell Tarly was coming to the Citadel and got to him first. Made me wonder if he is really a red priest that infiltrated the Citadel for some reason.

wow I couldn't figure out who the guy that took the keys to the Citadel was. Cool that it may be the Faceless Man, I liked him for taking care of Arya.
I found it difficult to follow exactly who was who when Sam got to the Citadel. So Marwyn was the guy that was sitting there waiting for Sam to show up then took him off to his chambers?

Right, the Sphinx (really Sarella Sand disguised as a male student at the Citadel) is the one that first intercepts Sam, then he (really a she) takes Sam to talk to Marwyn the rogue Maester.

Marwyn tells Sam to keep quiet about dragons and the stuff Aemon told him about Dany being Azor Ahai or else the leaders of the Citadel would kill Sam. Marwyn says it was the Maesters at the Citadel that killed off the dragons in the first place because they don;t want magic inthe world.

Then Marwyn takes off to sail over to see and help Dany. He never shows up in book 5, so it's still a mystery as to what happened to him after he left to go see Dany. At the end of that part, the sphinx tells Sam that Marwyn sent him to intercept Sam before he talked to the Citadel leaders and got himself into trouble, and that Marwyn knew Sam was coming because Marwyn somehow saw it in the flame of the dragon candle he keeps in his office that is finally lit again now that dragons have returned.

I think Marwyn and Jaqen are going to have huge roles in the main conflict and will probably all be heroes by the time Spring comes back around (once the Others have been defeated). I imagine Jaqen being the eyes and ears for the Faceless Men as he gets access to all the possible information (both old and new) so Arya will probably have access to it too, setting her up to be like the ultimate uberninja. Marwyn is an expert on Dragons so he'll probably be teaching Dany the tricks of the dragon riding trade. But really... who ****ing knows.
