Kastasyde && Monolithe
I recently ordered 14 CDs of bands I had never heard of, based a lot on cover art and band name. Kinda stupid I know, but they were only $4 a pop with free shipping and I got a few that I really like.
So far my favorite is Kastasyde - Hundred Hollow Words. They may be a bit too mainstream for some of the metal fans here, but I'm really enjoying it and thought I'd share. Each song on the album is quite different, yet maintains a "feel" that is the same band. My second favorite is Monolithe - Monolithe II. Apparently this is doom metal, but it has a very atmospheric sound to it. It's very slow and dark, and consists of a single 50 minute track. Due to the length, kind of tough to find a link, but they have sample cuts on their myspace page... http://www.myspace.com/monolithedoom The fact that they have the only myspace page I have ever been to that defaults to the music player turned off earns them a lot of appreciation from me! They had a mini album release recently called Interlude Premiere with a single track of just under 20 minutes. It was released free and is available here... http://www.jamendo.com/en/album/4817 I liked it, but think Monolithe II was much better. Free though, so hard to complain. |

Wow.
Not a single response. Using Monolithe II as an escapist sleep tool again and nobody has commented on them. I can undestand the dislike of Kastasyde as they're rather grungish, but if you're a progressive metal fan with no opinion of Monolithe, then you're just a pretender telling everyone else to listen to your 12 minute songs and unwilling to take the 50 minutes to listen to something else. Pussies. OK. I've had many car bombs and 151+ drinks tonight. Still doesn't excuse those "progressive fans" from ignoring this thread. I have honestly and seriously listened to everything recomennded on the the progressive front. Much of which (Maudlin of the Well), was way beyond my comfort zone. Yet you pansy ass bastards can't appreciate a somewhat more melodic/atmospheric representation of metal. I have to say, there are some pretty weak bastards here that claim they know metal. Nice to see that you all are such close minded metal fans that you'll push your own likes and ignore anything else.

Here's another sample for you pussies. Viking metal incorporating some kick ass American brass!!!!
Ooops, nevermind. This is Lumsk, another band I picked up that's better than Maudlin of the Well (yet to meet the band that isn't), but oh well.
