Branden Albert trade won’t happen unless he lowers his price

Branden Albert trade won’t happen unless he lowers his price

Branden Albert AP

The much-discussed potential trade of Branden Albert from the Chiefs to the Dolphins doesn’t appear likely at the price Albert is currently seeking.

Although the Chiefs and Dolphins can probably agree on compensation — the Dolphins sending a second-round pick to Kansas City — the hangup is that Albert wants the kind of money that the Dolphins aren’t willing to spend. Specifically, according to Jason Cole of Yahoo! Sports, Albert wants between $8 million and $9 million a year on a long-term deal.

In other words, Albert is looking for the same kind of contract that left tackle Jake Long got from the Rams — the very contract the Dolphins wouldn’t give Long, which is why he left Miami for St. Louis.

If the Dolphins weren’t willing to pay Long that kind of money, it’s hard to see why they’d be willing to give up a second-round draft pick for the privilege of paying Albert that kind of money. So the Dolphins may need to look elsewhere for a left tackle. And Albert may have to settle for playing this season for the Chiefs, making $9.8 million, and hitting free agency next year.

And you can say what you want, but the fact he's from a spread offense, with the most dynamic QB in college football isn't helping. Nor is the fact that some people seem to think he wasn't even the best LT on his own team and that Matthews is better.

I think he's a good prospect, but he's not a dominant physical specimen so I'm not sure his ceiling is that high.
I don't know how you can get on me for being optimistic when you predicted a 12 win season already.

I don't think anyone needs to be a film genius or NFL personnel scout to look at the guy. I've been watching him a lot.
And when I say watch, I mean watching him versus him man.

He gave Johnny Football good protection the majority of the time. Wasn't very often at all that I saw his man beat him with speed or power.

I did notice that Johnny Football runs up the middle a lot when he has a clean pocket to work with. Jesus it's frustrating to watch.

Oh I'm being a huge homer, but I don't really care so much. The Chiefs right now are big, but once the season hits I'll have a brand new baby boy so I'm going to be a casual fan as I can be.

And I just always aim high.

But I dont' think Joeckel has the frame to get much bigger. He isn't an elite athlete either, he's more of a technician. I'm not a huge fan of that, but meh, doesn't matter to me.

I don't blame you. I really like this offseason considering the cards dealt our way. Better than any I can remember.

I think the team is going to be in the playoff race. Honestly wouldn't be surprised if we got a 6th seed considering our schedule.

We really got ****ed over with this draft class. At least we got a silver lining with an incredibly favorable schedule.

Eh, I'd say it's a fairly "normal" draft class, there just isn't any elite guys at the top.

I'm not sold on the Broncos, mainly because of Bronco hate, nothing more, but I think we win the west this year.

Pretty bold statement. Broncos will probably win the West again.

Their offense is the most dangerous in the league and their defense, while not as dangerous as last year, is still fairly good.

I think we need to answer some questions first. We look solid on paper though.

Welker will be big for them, but I think (hope) Manning hits a wall this year.

I really like the sounds coming from our defense and it's style.

Our DL scares me. None of those guys have proven to get pressure on the QB consistently.

I hope we take a DL somewhere in this draft who can do that.

Well, thats why I'd rather take Richardson but I digress.

It will help with the new system. Not sure how much, but I'm sure teh change will help. I have high hopes for Powe in the new system and I think Poe has unlimited upside.

Your D line doesnt need to get pressure. Your LBS do. Poe, Jackson, and Allen need to hold the linemen, and let DJ, Hali, and Houston go crazy........

They don't need to hold lineman, they need to turn beast mode on and demand a double team. No penetration = no double team = Hali/Houston going vs a tackle and a back chipping.

You'd think a 49ers fan would realize the importance of the DL getting pressure when he has Justin ****ing Smith and Ray ****ing McDonald on his own team.

Those two guys have more QB hurries than any other 3-4 end in the league the last two years.
