If the Chiefs go 8-8 or better 49ers get a 2nd round pick.

A third- or second-rounder from Kansas City, the remnant of the Alex Smith deal. Now it can be told: The second draft choice San Francisco will receive from the Smith deal will be K.C.'s second-rounder in 2014 if the Chiefs go 8-8 or better this season. It will be a third-rounder in 2014 if Kansas City is under .500 this season.

So: San Francisco will probably have first-, second- and four third-rounders next year. But if the Chiefs surprise, it'll more likely be a one, two twos and three threes. As we've seen, GM Trent Baalke is dangerous with extra picks in his hands. If Colin Kaepernick is very good, the Niners should be annual contenders for years with the picks laid out that way.

i have no reason to do that. I am very pro alex and I can give you guys plenty of stats and info on alex that show he is a good qb. There will be people that never believe it though. Some people have their minds made up and will never admit they were wrong even if Alex has a good year they will devalue it and say well for this many years he sucked so 1-2 good years doesnt make upf for that. Trust me I have heard it all before

I have been dealing with the stupidity for many years. I agree with you... at some point though, the talk is pointless. Like you said, minds can't be changed. Oh well. Good thing Alex doesn't rely on the ignorance from fans on a forum or in the stadium. He just does his thing, and gets better as he goes.

I didn't see any of that...

Denver rookie QB John Elway, on Jack Lambert, after Lambert and the Steelers knocked Elway out of his first game as a pro (1983).

If some of these guys had their way we would be throwing deep on every down. They only want to see the big plays, just like they only want to draft "playmakers". Their team would suck, but they would never "check down".

What top prospect did we waste the opportunity to draft? In case you didn't notice, the entire NFL didn't think any of them were top prospects. There were a bunch of teams with needs for a QB early in the first round and NONE of them drafted a QB.

I completely agree with you. You are making my point.

Joe Montana was the "Comeback Kid" yet he never had more than 3- 4th quarter comebacks in any year that he had a great Defense. He had had 2- 4th quarter comebacks in 1984, 1 in 1985 and 1 in 1986.

http://www.pro-football-reference.co...layer=MontJo01

My point is, the 49ers had 6- 4th quarter comebacks in 2011 despite a defense as good as those Defenses Montana had. The 49ers should never have had to comeback 6 times in 2011, as they would not have with a Montana lead offense. Who was QB in 2011?

That is my point.

No one, ever, has stated that you need to go downfield every play.

But you do need to take your shots, and they can not be limited to just sure things like Alex Smith does.

3-4 shots downfield a game opens up things underneath, and running lanes for your ball carriers.

If you only take a shot here and there, then you wind up having defenses stacking the box against you more than any team in the league, much like teams did against, oh, I don't know, the 9ers, with Smith under center.

Here is what I expect Alex Smith to do this year:

56% Completion Percentage
3690 yards
20 TDs
19 Ints
36 Sacks

Hope I am wrong but that is the season I expect out of him.

One thing that has prevented the Chiefs from taking 3-4 shots down the field each game over the past several years has been an inability to make first downs with some regularity. If your drives regularly last at least 7-10 plays, you're going to end up with more downfield shots than if you go typically go 3 and out.

And in spite of that, as Claythan has pointed out a number of times, Matt Cassel has gone deep with more regularity than Alex Smith.

Geno Smith that is who. For what ever reason he got a bad rap but I think he is going to use that as motivation. I see a guy who is going put the work in to be the best he can turn out to be.

His talent skill sets are top notch quarterback quality. It would have been fun to see him play as a Chief grow and develop into what his potential could be after several years. He would have been worth the risk to take a chance on to find out if we could be rewarded for it.

No chance No risk No reward. No chance doesn't matter we got a RTotf / True fan gif.
