-- My car's timing chain snapped two weeks ago

The Audi's timing chain went about two weeks ago - Oddly it happened after the dealer had it (the next morning from getting it back, actually) - It really doesn't matter - you have no legs vs. a dealer and besides they'd have to dissect the engine to access that area. So in this case I actually do think it was just a mere coincidence.

Anyhow; ?? I'm wondering if anyone has recovered a vehicle from this timing chain issue ?? - again it's an 06 Audi A4 3.2

I bought a really fast vehicle & all - but black'ey can't be buried yet.

anyone else gone through this? I forget the details regarding the engine's structural assembly. There are two types - one where you're basically in a repairable situation or two - you're ****ed.

Help

Please....

If you had a Japanese car you could get a used motor for not a lot of money. It seems that there is a law in Japan that they have to replace the motor at 50K. All of those used motors are then shipped to places like to US where they can be used and still have a lot of life to them.

Too bad yours is a German POS.

I'm leery of those Japanese motors. They don't have a lot of miles but tend to have a lot of wear because it's about 90% city driving (short drives and a lot of idling).

No, I prefer dead rear axles...

WTF is a live rear axle? Not limited slip?

Do you literally type our of your asshole and hope it makes sense?

First off - no that's not fast - however it's not slow either - but to clarify this for you - I wasn't referring to the A4 - I was referring to my new 335i which is 0-60 in 4.8 secs - just .8 secs slower than it's bigger brother the m3

So please kindly **** off.

additionally - I like how you rounded the HP down - the 2006 3.2 is actually 265hp. Do you hate this much IRL?

As opposed to an independent rear suspension.

From the intardwebz:

Quote:
A live axle is where the axle tubes and center differnetial is all one assembly, solidly attached to the wheels. The axle assembly moves independently of the rest of the car, but the wheels attached to the axle move together.

The opposite is IRS, independent rear suspension. Each wheel can move independently. The center differnetial is mounted to the chassis, and does not move with the wheels.

Each design has strong and weak points.

Live axles inherently handle high torque better. You will not find dragsters with IRS.

Live axles have less power loss. IRS has more universal joints transferring power, and more angles the power has to traverse.

Live axles are generally less expensive to produce and maintain.

IRS has less unsprung weight. This is mass connected to the wheels, not the body of the car. Less unsprung weight makes for a better ride over quick bumps (pot-holes). It also improves handling over uneven surfaces.

IRS allows rear wheel alignment changes. With a live axle, the wheels are fixed to the axle assembly.

It is a popular belief that solid (live) rear axles handle bad, but that is not necessarily true. Many road race cars use solid axles. Trans Am racers come to mind. Solid axles do not limit handling on a smooth race track. The more uneven (bumpy) the track is, the better the IRS will be.

Well, I certainly hope they also dropped the "8 Track Player" and "Hand Crank Starter" while they were at it.
