Yeah, agreed. As an employer, the only reason I'd ask about salary is to assess whether it's worth bringing a person in for an interview. If they want double my company's salary range, let's not waste everybody's time.

But otherwise I have a salary range internally and that's what you're getting, whether it's up or down from your last job.

We usually just say what our pay range is if it looks like a person is likely to get an interview.
