What’s all the damn fuss about restrictor plate races?The driver keep "waiting for the big one", as the restrictor "bunches" up the cars reduces horse power etc..Ahhh, hang on a sec.If you have all the cars going wide open with no plate, or all the cars going wide open with a plate.Ain’t it the same thing?

no the restrictor plate is "Restricting" Air-

As we all know - increasing air is one of the cheapest and quickest way to improve performance-

but those cars would be to fast and it would be unfair if they all didnt have restrictor plates-

I think they would all die if they were allowed to go fast or something.

The restrictor plates make the cars more equal. Without them, the speeds of the cars would vary more, and the field would get more spread out.

If there was no restrictor, the best teams would have faster cars, while the poor teams would be closer to what they have now. That spreads out the field.

With restrictor plates, the cars are basically all the same speed... causing them to bunch up. More cars in a smaller area = more potential for big wrecks involving many cars.

They don't use them to make it "fair", they do it to keep the speeds down to a reasonable level. Those cars would be doing around 220 mph without them.

Cars before the restrictor plates were exceeding 200+ mph. They would literally get airborne during some wrecks. With todays motor performance technology, the cars could go almost 250 mph without the restrictor plate.
