My Dad used to let me and my friends take our boat (16' Bayliner) to Mark Twain lake when we were in high school. I have no idea what made him think that was safe, but whatever. We would always take beer and one time I made the mistake of announcing that I had just taken the last beer out of the cooler. Everyone except the driver dove at me to get the beer and we came THIS CLOSE to flipping that boat at pretty much full speed. We definitely straightened up after that. Scary.

I grew up on a lake with steady access to a boat from when I was about 12 years old. My friends and I stayed on the lake (bigtime into skiing) all summer, but we never had any close calls. But we didn't have a freaking scarab/cigarette boat either.

The dumbest thing I ever did in the boat (other than night time water skiing) was overloading our pontoon boat to the point that the pontoons were pretty much all the way submerged.
