Wakarusa coming to Arkansas

I know that Carl just resigned and all, but I thought I'd share the good (for us) news. I know some of the Kansans will be unhappy, but Wakarusa is coming to the Ozarks. The chosen site is absolutely beautiful. I just hope that the lineup matches last year's.

I'm also curious what larger venues Umphrey's plays that Yonder doesn't. If you look at both Yonder and Umphrey's tour stops, they play the exact same venues.
Here's the deal: for the other Wakarusa years, there was a mainstage "big act"

Wilco, The Flaming Lips, Gov't Mule, Widespread Panic, String Cheese, etc

you see the difference?

the anchor/headline act doesn't have to be a "huge" jamband per say, but there aren't many hippies that will travel hundreds/thousands of miles to see a festival headlined by Yonder.

fwiw, i like yonder and sound tribe, but i definitely wouldn't travel to a festival just for them.

does Yonder sell out Red Rocks? that's a serious question by the way.

if/when they do, they you can call them 1st tier.

They have the last 2 or 3 years. I went this year, or rather last year (08). Fantastic show, my first Red Rocks experience. Keller opened and did some killer jams with them, as did Billy Nershi from String Cheese.

they must be getting bigger.

but i still would not put them in the upper echelon as far as concert draw goes. the fact is, colorado is their home state and if they're going to sell out an 8000+ seat venue, it would definitely be more impressive if it wasn't in their backyard.

in any case, kudos to yonder for growing that fanbase! especially if Keller was opening for them.
